Toys and Games Reviews of Descubrimesa (Learning Table)Customer Review: Leapfrog Descubrimesa - A Great Choice for Spanish-Language Activity Center Summary: 5 Stars
I have been really pleased with the Descubrimesa, which we bought for my baby's first birthday. She had pretty much outgrown her beloved Leapfrog Learn & Groove Activity Center so I wanted to get her a similar item that would not confine her. I was really glad to find this Spanish-language toy. The voice is that of a native Spanish speaker (some other items I looked at were not voiced by native speakers, and only had a few words in Spanish), and the songs are catchy and hold my baby's attention. She has gotten a lot of use out of this toy. Before she could walk well, she used it to practice her standing skills while she flicked the switches and made the music play. The only thing I would comment on that could use some modification is the purple lid that lifts and lowers -- it is not terribly secure so that my baby was able to pull it off almost immediately. However, it is designed in such a way that it did not break, so maybe that is why it's easy to pull off. My baby loves to carry the lid around with her. It is the first thing she reaches for when she plays with the table. I'd much rather have it removable and reattachable than broken, that's for sure!
Description of Descubrimesa (Learning Table)Little ones earn musical rewards for physical exploration with Descubrimesa, the Spanish language version of the LeapStart Learning Table from LeapFrog. Spin the banjo wheel and hear a tune. Open and close the purple door to hear some jazzy vocals. Spin, roll, slide, push or pull all the various components and the colorful table responds with one of more than 40 songs and melodies. Legs easily detach for playing on the floor. Imported. This is a happy, noisy toy that should amuse most toddlers. Everything that can be touched reacts in some way, from a trombone-playing frog to a book that sings the alphabet. Our favorite is the colored keyboard that sings each color you press. The tabletop can be placed on the floor for those still in the crawling phase, or can sit on the included legs for a sturdy surface and leaning spot for little ones who are new to walking. If there is any fault with the Learning Table, it may be that it has too many features: each element of the table reacts in two different ways, depending on whether it's in Learn Mode or Music Mode. (Modes are switched by flipping the page of the book mounted in the center of the table.) Though this means more fun stuff for kids to hear, the mode concept is not one that they can be expected to understand, and the effect of the toy's inconsistent reactions is likely to be confusion.
