Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Phonics Writing Desk

Customer Review: Best Learning toy out there
Summary: 5 Stars

This product has been around for a while. This is the first review I have ever written, and I am writing as a mother of a 6 year old and a teacher. This product is great for children starting at age 3. It helps them pronounce the sounds when they type on the letters, has helpful games that let the child create their own 3-letter words, has a few games, to help children with letter recognition and tests them and prepares them for spelling tests and assists with letter chunking, so your child will be capable of writing many words. I would not buy this product for over 20 dollars, since it can be found even as low as 15 at some walmarts and kmart stores, especially around the holidays. I bought my child's phonics desk here, but it wasnt for 30 dollar price tag that its being sold for here. Kids love it, Parents love it, keeps your child busy and active in the learning process.

Customer Review: Great Learning Tool
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently purchased this educational tool for my 4 year old daughter. My daughter has been writing her letters backwards and my husband and I have been trying to teach her the correct way to write them. After one week of using the Phonics Writing Desk we already see an improvement. Just last week we started her on upper case letters and already she has developed a better sense of how to begin forming the letters correctly.

We figure after four weeks of practicing on her upper case letters for an hour a day she will build more confidence in writing.

Before purchasing this tool, we began teaching her three letter words and she became excited when she recongnized most of what she had already learned was programmed in the writing desk.

We are very happy with this product. Although, we do have a hard time keeping the pen stable within the unit while on trips.

Customer Review: Ours has never seen the toy box!
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought ours years ago for our #2 son...it was an instant hit. As a result, it never got "put away" rather, it earned it's place in our child's section of the bookcase.

As our #3 grew, so did his interest in the writing desk. As the toy was still in tip top shape there was no need to purchase a new one. We were thrilled that a toy that had been the subject of so much use was still in such "new-like" condition. He constantly plays with it. I am amazed that two completely different personalities can be so engaged with the same toy. Our boys are constantly trying to spell words they already know and even make up new ones.

A great toy for reinforcing knowledge and self-esteem.

The many features of this toy, it's educational value, durability, and overall...interest keeping power make the Phonics Writing Desk well worth the money.

Customer Review: a FUN FILLED phonics and alphabet toy
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this toy 3 Christmas's ago, for Joseph our 2 1/2 year old (He is now 5 1/2). He had personally asked for the Phonics Writing Desk and he has played with it for hours on end. I think it was an assest in his ability to read before going to Kindergarten. He now has renewed interested in it since his 3 year old brother Benjamin is constantly playing with it. Ben especailly loves it that he can write his name BEN with it and then it actually says his name. He has learned to write about 30 three letter words in the past two weeks. Some of his favorites include; Mom, Dad, jet, jam, eye, ear, hid, and bed. Ben has learned how to write a lot of his letters from watching the toy. The place to write on has been ruined for quite a while - but he tries it on paper after watching the machine show how to form each letter.

Customer Review: My six year old loves it
Summary: 5 Stars

My six year old's kindergarten teacher loaned this toy to us because my son is having trouble remembering his upper case and lower case letters. This toy is wonderful because my son is hearing the letter (in a very clear, easy to understand voice) as he presses the letter shape on the leapfrog desktop. The toy then displays the upper case and lower case versions of the letter he just pressed in the small screen. After that the small screen demonstrates how to make the lower case version of the letter. The toy has a writing window with an attached "pen" so my son is able to write the letters (or words for the more advanced levels of games) which is great "hands on" practice for what he is seeing and hearing. The higher levels of this toy work on letter sounds and spelling short 3 letter words. We're going to buy him his own this weekend!
