Toys and Games Reviews of LEGO Ultimate Building Set - 405 Pieces (6166)Customer Review: This is it????? Summary: 2 Stars
Maybe its just that my expectations were too high, but I am extremely disappointed in the amount of legos that come with this set. First of all the box appears much bigger in the pictures and the number of legos (405) seemed like a lot. Well I was sadly mistaken. I bought 2 sets of these and there still seems to be a limited number of legos. The box is only about 1/4 full and the green placemat seems less than 10in. l/w.
That being said...its still legos. My kids love them and I love when they bring me things they have made. They still have tons of fun...just for a much shorter period of time. I love legos...but I shouldnt have to buy 3 or 4 boxes to fill up what should be in 1.
Customer Review: To Afghanistan Summary: 5 Stars
Our Grandson is with the military in Afghanistan. We fussed a long time about what to send him for Christmas. When he was young and visiting, he would head directly for the closet where the Legos were stored. So, we thought, Why Not? He received the Legos and enjoyed them so much he took them to work with him so the other GIs could enjoy them on their breaks, too. They were an outstanding hit and the best thing we could have sent him. I'm guessing they will be pretty well-worn by the time he is released to come home. I'm betting he will leave them there for other troops to play with.
Thank you Amazon for sending them direct with no shipping costs. Great service.

Customer Review: Building Base Plate for Ultimate Lego Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great starter set but I don't consider it to be "ultimate." Not a lot of pieces for the price. I purchased this for a 4 year old because I'd read that it was a great toy to keep kids busy and creative. I also did a lot of research on the building bases that are sold on Amazon, but I mistakenly thought that the building base plate *in this set* was 16" by 16" wide and not 16 by 16 studs which works out to about 3" by 3". Yes, it is mentioned in the product description but the only Legos I've seen prior to this were much larger, approximately 1"-2" wide. Just a heads up to anyone who isn't knowledgeable about toys: a decent size building base has to be purchased separately.
Customer Review: LEGOs - Still a Great Toy but Not Much For The $$$$ Summary: 3 Stars
Instead of "Ultimate Building Set" it would be more appropriately called "Nice Starter Set".
The set was as described but the box size and name makes it look like there are many more blocks than you actually get.
There are enough blocks in this set to keep a 9 year old interested for 5 or 6 play sessions. I will probably need to buy at least 2 more sets if I want to have enough to keep a kid interested.
I do reccomend this set over the pre-designed sets that push you to make a certain structure. The mixed blocks give the freedom to be creative. LEGOs are great; just be aware that if you really want to have fun you need more than what comes in this box.
Customer Review: Don't base your expectations on the size of the box Summary: 4 Stars
I am happy with the purchase overall - the amount of pieces for the price was better than I could find in any stores and comparable to what I found online in other places. All said and done, this ended up being the best deal by a few dollars.
My one complaint is this: upon arrival at my house I was delighted with the outward appearance of this - exactly what I expected. But after I unpackaged all of the Lego the container was barely 1/3 full! It was a big disappointment. I am considering buying three similar products so that our Lego collection will be adequate and use the extra containers to store other toys...but geesh! when did plastic get so expensive?
