Customer Review: A good challenge for a 9-year-old Lego builder with some experience

This topped my son's Christmas list this year. He's put together more than his fair share of Lego sets, and really wanted this one next. Typically, we leave him on his own to do all the building, and he checks in with us once in a while to show his progress. This time, however, he actually needed a little help.
As another reviewer noted, there are some details that are easy to overlook when putting this together. The place where my son hit a snag was when adding the wings. The diagrams in the manual DO indicate that the pistons are closed when adding the wings, but this fact really ought to be emphasized. Because he overlooked this detail when putting it together, he and I had about 15 minutes of backtracking to figure out exactly what went wrong.
It was a good learning experience...frustration is an important part of solving problems. I just think it's worth pointing out that this is one of the first Lego sets where he experienced that kind of frustration.

I really liked this set, mainly because of the moving wings, but also the simplicity and ease of modifing it. I like to make very small modifications whenever I get a new Lego set. The modification I made was this: On the part of the middle wing where it connects to the main body, there is a Lego TECNIC-style piece that when the wings are extended, (As shown on the box), it should touch the bottom of the main body. But unfortunatly it doesn't quite go all the way like it should. So I put in one of those blue pieces that snap into a TECNIC piece and you can attach a normal Lego piece to the part that sticks out. You put one of those in the TECNIC piece on the hinge, and when you unfold the wings, it will snap into the bottom of the main body. The only reason I rated 1 star on education was because you don't see them in many classrooms in the U.S. It is a very cool set, though.Customer Review: Exciting build, fun ship, but be careful!

My (almost) 9-year old grandson (an expert Legos man) built this set in a few hours. Building the ship requires careful attention to detail as it is easy to make mistakes. An example would be installation of the engines: If the wing extension pistons are not fully closed (retracted) when snapping the engines in place, then the wings will not deploy properly requiring some disassembly. But, that's where the educational part comes in. One negative note: The wings are heavy and are not adequately secured to the wing roots. The wing root pins insert into two bushing pieces that do not have sufficient attachment/adhesion area to hold the heavy wings on the ship during anything more than careful play. Boooo! Would buy this set again? Yes! Advice: But, buy this set ONLY for older Legos builders more interested in the building phase than the play phase.Customer Review: henya bomber, no problom!

The torrent is one of lego's best sets ever! Now if your wondering, the cock pit can fit your clone pilot's(a very rare and cool minifig) sniper gun(behind the seat). The only thing I would be careful about is that this is a higher level set, I'v been doing legos for 6 years(I'm 11)and it was a friendly challenge. Includes some rare parts such as a super long axles that can come in handy for most projects. I think that a thing most people wonder when they see the box is were do you hold it, I think the best thing to do is hold the middle wing. For me the most frustrating thing is that sometimes the slide-out cock pit sometimes dosn't slide back in and you have to fiddle with it a little. The only other thing is that the flick-fire torpedoes are pretty much bombs. Over all, this is a nice set if you are a lego master pretty much.

What a wonderful ship the V-19 Torrent is. Just fabulous in design as well as playability(is that a word?);)
Great set to build with fun, intricate parts to connect to make all 3 wings move simultaneously to deploy and retract the landing gear. Looks great in either position plus it's durable and fun to play with.
Pros-Design, build, 3 wings simultaneously deploy and retract, playability, slide open cockpit, plus neat Clone-Pilot w/rifle.
Cons-Really none BUT, when building please follow carefully the positioning of the landing gear segments. Must be accurate at all phases to make the wings raise and lower properly.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any Lego collector or newbie. Lot's of fun!
