Toys and Games Reviews of LEGO Pink Brick Box Large (5560)Customer Review: The Perfect Starter Set for Girls Summary: 5 Stars
I grew up on K'Nex. I'm a 23 year old male. I have two little sisters. One's a snob-nosed, arrogant high school senior (I still love her), the other's a sweet, 8-year-old. Nevertheless, the latter plays too many video games, in my opinion.
So I thought of ways to stop that. I hid the controls. She found them. I took away the cable. She complained, but I still kept it away. But I've been thinking for some time of getting her some creativity and educational toys that she can spend hours and hours with. I rummaged through my old toys and found my big ol' K'Nex box. Floods of memories and nostalgia inundated my brain, and I hoped she would spend countless hours of pure imagination and fun with them as I did. Suffice to say, she played with them for only a week. Looks like I had lost quite a few pieces over the years, so she was limited with the amount of objects she could actually construct. Plus, the instructions were missing.
I wasn't too much of a LEGO fan growing up, but I thought I'd give 'em a try. Her birthday came and went, and she's still playing with this set.
Success!
The actual bucket for this set is quite large compared to the amount of LEGOs you get, but that's probably to contain more pieces in the future. All in all, it's a great set to get little girls started on the Danish construction blocks.
Furthermore, she hasn't really mentioned video games as of late, and even though the structures don't take too much time to build, she spends hours thereafter breaking them down, and rebuilding several other, imaginative devices of her own.
I'm glad she likes them; that makes me happy. When I had some friends over, she came down with her LEGO set and started playing in the vicinity. My mates immediately exclaimed "LEGOs!" and began reminiscing of their days rife with the little plastic bricks.
And just the other day she showed me some of her own creations. Of course, me being the big brother, said I was going to rampage her models. "No! I worked really, really hard on them. It took me a while to figure them out, but I got it."
A warm smile spread across my face, and I spared her toys--for now!
Customer Review: LEGO Fun Summary: 4 Stars
This was a gift for my daughter's fourth birthday. The box of LEGOs comes with loads of basic building blocks plus a horse, person, wheels, and several other components to build cars, houses, flowers, etc. There is also an instruction booklet to help your child get building. Even my daughter can look at the pictures and figure out what pieces she needs although she may not always get them put together correctly. There is one flat, building platform included but I think LEGO should have included a couple more of the building platforms. I really like that the lid snaps closed as there are a lot of small pieces that can easily spill everywhere if the box is knocked over. This is a great gift to get your child's imagination going and to foster creativity. At first, she didn't really know where to start as there are so many pieces but we sat down and started building and now she can build tons of things on her own. She will pull the box out on her own (without any suggestion on my part) and get to work. She delights in showing me what she has made. Overall, I think this is a basic, great gift that will help your child develop her spatial concepts and a further understanding of how the concepts of symmetry and gravity work (e.g., a table needs 4 legs to stay standing, a house needs 4 walls to build a roof across the top, etc.). If anything, it will augment your child's fine motor skill coordination. Overall, this is a winner toy.
Customer Review: For Girls! Refreshing... Summary: 5 Stars
This is a Lego set made especially for girls. My daughter LOVED this set. The white horse was great, as well as the table, chairs, flowers & cups etc. Happy about baseplates (though one especially small) housing options and car.
If only there were more bricks! Lego had some neat construction ideas pictured in the manual, but does not describe EVERY ONE step-by-step i.e. daughter wants to build "that one!" Unfortunately, I can't correctly duplicate it (within any reasonable timeframe) without directions. Also, she asks help with building one set, but it would demolish the other small thing she built and it makes her SO sad. Clearly, this needs to be expanded with extra pieces! At the very least, I hope Lego will come out with a 1,000+ piece brick blocks in pastel (like the anniversary collection w/ gold bricks I bought years ago when my son was younger).
Thank you, Lego!!
*I am inclined to give a 4, but daughter insists it deserves a 5, anyway. She says that she loves it still and she has no complaints.
Customer Review: My 6 year olds first lego set. PERFECT! Summary: 5 Stars
I am so pleased that Lego has a few sets out that are geared towards girls. My daughter just barely turned 6 and has never shown a previous interest to mega blocks or duplos when she was younger. She'd play with them a little bit but never really got into building. Same thing with our wooden unit blocks that I spent a fortune on. However, she adores these to pieces. I gave her this set today and she spent hours with it all day making various furniture and houses. The step by step visual instructions along with the girly vibrant colors and the included person has completely drawn her in. She told me it was the best present EVER.
There are many more directions to things that you can build with this set than I originally thought and I am just very pleased. I like that it gives so many examples because my daughter is not yet in the place where she really cares to make up her own things yet. I am also happy that this set will be enough to wet her appetite for more building. I see many more lego sets in our future.
Customer Review: Finally! Pink legos! Summary: 4 Stars
I wasn't sure if my girls would like Legos, so I bought this basic set thinking it would be a good introduction. Turns out they LOVE them. The horse and cart is fun as is the little furniture you can make. And my girls both love the bright pink and green and yellow colors. I would give this product a five star rating, the only problem is that Lego hasn't added much to their pink line as of yet and my girls are begging for more. This was also quite a large box and it is only filled a quarter full. It implies you can add to your pink set with more pink, but you cannot. Hurry Legos! Get on the ball and make more pink! You've finally tapped into a market that you have largely ignored up until now.
