Customer Review: Incredibly cool and a guaranteed kid pleaser

This beautiful starfighter jet? spaceship? never fails to elicit comments about its coolness or awesomeness from young visitors to our house. It was the first of my son's lego birthday presents that he assembled. He treasures this toy and takes great pains to make sure it doesn't get destroyed or broken or mixed up in the general lego bin. But even if it were to get mixed in, the bright yellow color should make it easier to find the needed pieces if my son ever wished to rebuild it.
The starfighter is pretty durable too. It has been dropped several times and it is either undamaged or breaks in an easily fixable way - no shattered lego pieces strewn across the floor.
It also comes with R2D2, a couple of people (I think one is Anakin), and a smaller fighter ship, so the set provides enough extras for lots of imaginative play.

My son received this for his 8th birthday. He loved it! He was old enough to be able to build this from the directions without help and fast build it, he did! I thought that would be it - $[...] and he was done with it in a single afternoon - but no, he gets a good amount of imaginative play with the finished models, so it was a very worthwhile purchase. This is a great buy for children who have taken interest in the Star Wars movies and who love to assemble LEGO's. My son got this as as birthday present, and it is very cool looking. He put it together with some help, and it just wouldn't stay together very well. His dad, who has loved and collected legos for years, tried to reinforce the design with additional pieces. That didn't even help. I have read the other reviews suggesting that the design is durable, but the wings collapsed on my son's when he tried to put people into the cockpit. Despite this, we have rebuilt the ship at least 6 times because it is wonderful visual design, very slick looking.Customer Review: It comes apart during mild play way too easily

The best part of this for my 7 year old was putting it together. He absolutely loves assembling Lego toys, such as the Bionicle series, which he started on when he was around 4-5. I just wish the design of it was such that it didn't fall apart so easily. He's really afraid to do much with it other than look at it, for fear that it will fall apart. Btw, I tried to press the pieces together more myself, thinking he might not have been able to do it. I saw this thing before I saw the old version of this set, and there's really no comparison. It is a really sweet kit. The launcher would beat a sniper in a compitition of distance. (Not really; this thing can't shoot 2 1/2 miles with pinpoint accuracy. Actually, this thing can't shoot 2.5 miles at all. Drat.) Both the N-1 and the Vulture Droid look awesome, but the Vulture Droid's "flick fire missles" don't work at all. Who cares, though? It's a sweet set either way you cut it.
