Toys and Games Reviews of LEGO Mindstorms Robotic Invention 2.0Customer Review: The toy of the future Summary: 5 StarsBelieve it or not, I love these products so much I wrote my Senior Thesis around it. If you want to read it,you can find it by searching on Google: "Robots: America's Answer to Dwindling Math Scores". I'm not trying to self promote (yes I am shameless though), but this toy I believe can help in changing this nation at it's core if promoted properly. Any educator or parent I believe will be moved by this article and I hope will assist in molding our nation's youth. A description of my thesis is as follows: "As a result of robotic entices and inadequacies of nationally recorded math scores among school age children, a systematic approach to using technical advances in an outdated curriculum for mathematical improvement is explored. Lego Mindstorms, BEAM technology, and robotic creations are examined and then included in a potential year long case study. The rationale behind the choices, a thorough guide to success, and futuristic implications are investigated."
Description of LEGO Mindstorms Robotic Invention 2.0The LEGO MindStorms Robotics Invention System is easy enough for kids, but powerful enough for high school and university-level students to makeimpressive use of it. Now you can create programmable robots that navigateobstacles, follow trails, or react to Many high-tech toys start with a fun and fascinating idea only to make it frustratingly complicated in the execution. Leave it to LEGO to make a technologically advanced toy fun to play with. The enormous 718-piece LEGO Mindstorms Robotic Invention System lets you construct a variety of moving robot vehicles and then program them from your Windows 98- or Windows Me-compatible computer. The robots are all based around a bright yellow basic unit, which serves as the functional heart of whatever is being built. The brick receives commands from the computer via an infrared tower unit. The computer interface is incredibly user-friendly and intuitive. What's most impressive about the system, however, is the variety of robots that can be built. There are detailed instructions for each one, and since these are LEGOs, builders are free to come up with an endless variety. --John Moe
