I really like Lego Robotics and belong to a robotics team that competes in tournaments every year.The new robotics kit is great.It gets rid of alot of issues with the old Mindstorms 2.0 that were pretty trivial but did bother my team during competitions.A few of the problems with the new system are that it isn't as simple as the old programing system.It looks like the people at Lego tried to some up with something that looked really robot-ish and looked over a few small details like durability and how well the system might work with children that are old enough to want to do it on their own but don't really think about every little thing before pushing a button and accidently deleting the demo on the brick.All in all it's a pretty cool toy though and it is worth the money.Customer Review: Lego Mindstorms NXT, un excelente paquete de robótica

El paquete de robótica Lego Mindstorms NXT es un excelente producto para iniciarse en el mundo de la robótica. Así como su predecesor, el Lego Mindstorms Robotics Invention System, la compañía lego lo construyó de muy buena calidad a un excelente precio. La facilidad de poderlo programar en varios lenguajes de programación, entre ellos C y Java lo hacen muy atractivo para uso educativo tanto en programación como en robótica. En general, es un paquete muy usado en todo el mundo, para fines educativos, incluso de investigación a nivel universitario y posgrado.

Customer Review: Even a Seven Year-Old....

My seven year-old son built the 'getting started' bot, scorpion, AND alpha rex (humanoid) all within the first two weeks. He took to the programming interface very quickly.
If your child has good spatial and mechanical prowess, then this will probably be one of the best purchases you will ever make. This is especially true if your child already builds intermediate to advanced Lego kits.
This is a great way for persons of any age to get a solid introduction to robotics. I purchased the first mindstorms kit back in 1998 (before my son was even born) and have been hooked on Mindstorms ever since. I wish I could tell you more about the NXT system but my son won't leave it alone long enough for me to play!

The Lego NXT is more than just a toy. The NXT is an excellent tool to learn about computer programming languages such as C, Java, and even Lisp. The experiential hands-on education of robotics (designing, building, and programming robots) also provides an excellent tool for learning general Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) topics, pre-CS1 for computer science majors and students considering a CS major, teaching computer science, teaching artificial intelligence (AI) concepts, and K-12 outreach and enrichment. In this regard, the value of robotics lies in its concrete character, and its service as a bridge between operational and abstract levels of thinking.Customer Review: Fantastic kit!

This Mindstorms kit is the best thing I have ever purchased for my kids! We were introduced to Mindstorms during a robotics class my son took last summer at our local university. I must admit I was a bit skeptical about buying our own Mindstorms kit, since it doesn't come with professors and engineering graduate students to assist with assembly and operation :) However, my kids built their first project and had programmed it to do super cool things within a couple of hours. Talk about a boost to their egos! The motion sensor and sound capabilities are great, and I love seeing the sense of accomplishment in my kid's faces. My boys are aged 12 and 17.
