Got this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter and she loves it. She can easily put the pieces together and often "narrates" what she is building. What looks like a jumble of blocks is actually a playground with all kinds of fantastical features :) Obviously it builds imagination and dexterity while having fun. This particular set is a great value for the number of pieces you receive and there is extra room in the container for you to add to the collection with more pieces as needed. Overall great toy and great value. Also we have played with the "megablocks?" version (the generic version) and they are not nearly as durable/sturdy as the LEGO brand.Customer Review: A Great Set and a Classic Toy

We bought this set for my nephew for Christmas this year- it was his first Lego/Duplo set. Lego Duplo toys are a classics that all kids love because it allows them to use their imagination while using and developing their fine motor skills. This is a really great set in particular because its got lots of pieces for playing and makes a great starter set for someone who doesn't have any Duplos or an addition to beef up the smaller sets. Duplos are high quality- large enough for little hands to easily grip. This is a quality toy and a quality set. Plus it comes with the great storage tub to keep them in. My twin three year olds have really taken to this set in recent months and it has really brought out their creativity. They have built me all manner of houses, trains, tracks, cars, aeroplanes and schools and even Kenya. I love their pride as they explain to me what they have built. I also love that they are able to play together quietly for more than 5 minutes with this toy. The box makes storage and clean up time easier. I wish that there were more bricks and more wheels and a bigger base plate but the real beauty of this toy is that you can add to it to suit your needs.Customer Review: Nothing tells you this is the "Preschool Building" set

This listing on Amazon does not give all the information about this set. This is the "Preschool Building" set. I thought I was buying a good mix and variety of blocks to form a basic foundation for building a lego collection and this is not a basic set as I wanted. It's to specifically build a preschool building, tree and some kind of vehicle. There are a ton of the tiny square blocks, and much fewer of the standard size blocks. Which makes it not so great for kids under 2 because the tiny square blocks can be choking hazards.

As a former lego kid, buying this toy for my 17-month-old was a no-brainer. I didn't realize however how much this toy teaches! Joshie first would take things apart that I put together for him, but now is starting to put things together himself! He's learning the shapes and how they stack. The pieces are too big for him to choke on, and when he has attempted to chew on them, he gets nowhere.
If you remember the wonder of lego blocks, and want that for your developing toddler, I say GO FOR IT.
