Toys and Games Reviews of LEGO Duplo Building Set - 71 Pieces (5380)

Customer Review: Great for all ages and stages!
Summary: 5 Stars

This bucket of Legos/Duplos is great for starting out. We have slowly added to this collection. There are just so many things you can DO with Legos! Sort by color, and shape! Oh, and take apart and build! We build not only buildings, but cars, roads, bridges, and even pretend food (we have rectangular apples in our house) and they know not to eat them! If your kids are into a lot of building, or you have more than one child, then you may need to get another base plate to supplement this set. To qwell the demolition side of your kids, building towers and other structures and then crashing into them with various vehicles is also big entertainment. Additionally, this really helps children with fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and even foundations for geometry concepts!

I do think this set is a little pricy on Amazon - we got ours as a gift that was purchased at Wal-Mart.

Customer Review: COSTLY MISTAKE
Summary: 5 Stars

Black Lightning Sales had the best price listed for the Lego set on Amazon on the day that I was e-shopping. I ordered the set for my grandson. However, the $50.88 I paid for it was way over priced, according to other websites and even local stores. When I contacted BLS about returning it for full credit I was told that there may be a restocking fee and I would have to pay for shipping and to have it insured. Since the Lego was intact and not opened, I packaged it and took it to be shipped for return. The cost was over $13, not including insurance. I could have shipped it a cheaper way, however, since it was going to a post office box, that was not an option. So I swallowed my loss and kept the high priced Lego. My grandson won't know the difference!Ultimate LEGO Building Set

Customer Review: Who knew legos were fun...
Summary: 5 Stars

So, let me start by saying that when I was a little girl, I didn't like legos or lincoln logs or anything of the sort. And while I have a nephew who buys and assembles all of the extraordinary lego sets, I never thought we'd have them in my house due to my own biases. However, when a developmental specialist recommended that we use legos with one of our twin toddler girls, I instantly bought the LEGO Duplo Building Set.

Her love to practice stacking the legos and keep trying is awesome. It's wonderful to see her enjoy the legos and get better eye hand coordination every step of the way. In the meantime her sister, probably loves them as much as I did. And she loves to take apart what her sister put together and throw them everywhere. C'est la vie.

These legos definitely keep my girls occupied for 30 minutes, and with toddler twins that's a bonus.

Customer Review: Duplo is a classic for little builders
Summary: 5 Stars

Lego Duplo is a wonderful gift for little builders

Pros:

It's incredibly flexible
It stimulates the imagination, and builds hand-eye coordination
The toy is tough, and safe
It works in conjunction with "regular" legos when the child is older
No worries about getting the child a duplicate gift. If someone else got the kid the exact same set, no problem! Twice as many legos is twice as good!
Comes with a neat case to keep the duplos organized.

Cons:

Stepping on Duplos in your bare feet will cause 5 d20 piercing and bludgeoning damage. Dungeons and Dragons references aside, it's very painful, because the toy is so durable. This only seems to bother adults - kids have no problems with this because they have little feet and don't weigh very much.

Customer Review: 23-month-old loves this Duplo set
Summary: 5 Stars

My son got this last Christmas when he was 15 months old, and loved it immediately. He didn't "build" much with it at first (I've heard from other parents that kids don't really have the hand strength and coordination at that age) but enjoyed sorting the blocks and taking apart things that I made for him. Now, at 23 months, he is more into both building things - mostly towers or "helping" me build a house- as well as taking them apart. He likes naming all the colors of the blocks, and also puts the "car" in the garage and puts "George" (our name for the little guy) to bed in his house. I expect we'll get a lot of play out of this set for some years, though we may need to buy another set or two so he can build more complex things.
