Toys and Games Reviews of Large KitchenCustomer Review: Super kitchen! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this for our girls (4 and 2 yrs) last Christmas so we have last year's model so I can vouch for how well this has held up. They still love it and play with it daily. Great wooden design and sturdy construction, but let me tell you this is no small undertaking to assemble; it is easy but time consuming. If I only could have paid Santa to assemble! Other than that, as compared to the other wooden kitchens, it is a great product at this price point and much better quality than the plastic ones that make noises etc. as it is larger and in reality kids will use their imagination and don't need all that other stuff. My girls cook, bang, open doors and shove stuff in it and it takes it like a champ! The only drawback is that is is primarily made in feminine colors so if you have a little man that loves to cook Target now carries a great little wooden kitchen that is blue and has a stainless steel look to it plus they carry great wooden food and accessories.
Addenum: Now 2009 and years later this little kitchen is still going strong and taking a beating from 3 little girls but has held up well! I still highly recommend!
Customer Review: Adorable kitchen!! Summary: 4 Stars
We got this for our 20 month old daughter for Christmas and it was definitely a hit with her..and a headache for her Daddy! Contrary to my suggestions, my husband let this sit unopened in the box until Christmas Eve. He soon regretted that decision when he was up for hours (3 to be exact) putting this thing together. (and I was lying in bed trying not to say "I told you so!) He said everything was labeled well (except that two boards were labelled with the same number, but we quickly determined where each went) but he said there are just so many pieces and screws that it is time consuming. Once together it was really cute and seemed well-made except that the door to the oven sticks just a bit. We used a large bicycle-sized gift bag to sort of cover this and then let our daughter unwrap it X-mas morning and she went crazy for it!! (and all of the Melissa and Doug wooden food and Step Two dishes we had piled inside of it!) If you want a good sized kitchen that your child can use as a toddler but still grow into and enjoy for years, this is the one! (but shop around, we paid 140 for this and that included shipping)
Customer Review: Unacceptable Summary: 1 Stars
This product was very disappointing to say the least. I opened the box and many of the parts were damaged. Some of the damage may have been due to shipping but hardware was missing. The workmanship looked poor as well. It looked like the manufacturer drilled two holes in the wrong place and put dowls in the holes to cover it up and brushed over it with a different color paint. For the price I paid I would have thought this product (Kidkraft Large Kitchen) would have been made with better workmanship but I'm beginning to expect this from Chinese made products unfortunately. When I contacted Kidkraft to ask how I can express my concern about the poor workmanship they pointed me to there website to write them an email or letter. There is no such link on there home page to contact them. I asked them to replace the broken and missing parts and they said it will take 1-2 weeks. If these parts don't live up to my satisfaction I'm sending it back for a full refund. I'll have to find something else for my daughter to play with which is disappointing.
Customer Review: Assembly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be Summary: 4 Stars
We decided on this kitchen instead of the Melissa and Doug wooden kitchen, even though we have all the M&D wooden accessories. I'd read that this one was easier to assemble. I knew I would be doing it on my own because my partner would be out of town. I have never used power tools before. It actually wasn't bad. It was frustrating at first, but the first step is much harder than most of the rest of the assembly.
The directions can be difficult to interpret, which led to the foundation piece being put in backwards. That created problems down the line, meaning that I had to drill some new holes. It was easier to do that than unbolt everything and start over.
This would have been easier if there were 2 people doing it to hold some stuff in place. Also, you need an electric screw driver or it will take forever.
The reason that I give this only 4 stars is that after it was all said and done I had two 20 gallon garbage bags full of non-recyclable packing material which is just totally unnecessary. It's also a little wobbly.
Customer Review: Lots of fun Summary: 5 Stars
This product arrived with some damage to the pieces. The company promptly sent new pieces as replacement parts, but even one of the replacement parts had some damage. Other than that, this kitchen is a lot of fun for our daughter. She is a tall two-year-old, so she can reach everything but the very top shelf of the unit. She loves to "bake" things, "turn on" the water, and put her doll's bottles in the refrigerator. She noticed the clock with movable hands on the side of the refrigerator and she was so excited!
I wanted a kitchen with knobs that turned, lots of shelves, a sink with movable faucet pieces, and durability. I was a little unpleased with the cracked pieces, but that could be the shipping company's fault and the company did remedy it for us. We kept the replacement pieces for when we have to move the item to a new home, in case any of the pieces that are already cracked break in the move.
Overall, we're pleased and our daughter is in love with it!
