Hot Rod was always my favorite Autobot and admittedly the old toy didn't really capture the character well from back in the animated days. The Revoltech Hot Rod(imus) on the other hand? Wow. It's him. First off, this is a Revoltech, so it is NOT A TRANSFORMING TOY. But believe me, that's not a bad thing. Hot Rod is so flexible that you can get him into nearly any pose a proper cartoon robot can assume. The paint applications are beautiful and there's even a hint of sparkle to the paint in places. As expected the Revolver joint system holds up well to constant posing and reposing. Now for the problems. The hands are swappable giving you fist variants ranging from thumbs-up to guns. The variation is nice, but the problem is the point of attachment. Most Revoltechs feature interchangeable hands that are solid pieces; Hot Rod's feature glued in posts that are then inserted into the arm at the wrist. The attachment point is so tight that it can (and has) ripped the post free from the hand leaving a stump. It's fixable, but also kind of irritating. Revoltechs are usually better thought out in terms of design, so this was sort of a shocker. Secondly, because he's a Revoltech, he's not very big. I don't have a lot of excess space so I don't mind, but at 4 inches tall I know some people might be a little put off. I will say that despite the problems, I am totally happy with this toy and (to me) he was absolutely worth the money!
Description of Transformers Revoltech - 047 Hot Rodimus
The Revoltech: Hot Rodimus / Rodimus Convoy features 2 different fin/wing attachments that can be used to distinguish between either incarnation; additional accessories would probably include items such as alternate hands and such. The initial prototype imagery suggests an aesthetic based on Rodimusā?TM cartoon appearance. Inexplicably Hot Rodimus was chosen by the Matrix of Leadership to the Autobotsā?TM new (temporary) leader. In the process of being pummeled by a pain-crazed Galvatron, Hot Rodimus succeeded in activating the Matrix and was upgraded into a larger and stronger robot. Quickly taking the rein, Rodimus Convoy defeated a disbelieving Galvatron before using the transcendent power of the Matrix to cripple and destroy Unicron.Photo courtesy of GA Graphic.
