Toys and Games Reviews of K'nex Swing Ride- 853 pcsCustomer Review: Way beyond Legos, even 4 year olds can enjoy (with some help!) Summary: 5 Stars
Summary: Great introduction to K'nex, good for ages down to perhaps 3 or 4 with supervision. Shop around and compare with similar K'Nex kits.
With 3 girls we're always trying to expose our three girls to more than the pink princess stuff. This one was a big hit. We have a ton of Lego, and this was our first real K'nex set.
The ability of K'nex to make large structures and enable motion are WAY beyond Lego. It easily allows sliding and rotation between pieces, and also allows for braced and cantilevered structures. As an engineer I really had a blast.
I built the entire model in about 90 minutes with help from a 4 year old and a 7 year old. While the 7 year old was able to make sub assemblies from the instructions, I would simplify the sub-assemblies to only 4 or 5 pieces and then have the 4 year old duplicate them. She made a significant contribution to the project in this way and really enjoyed it.
One of the best parts was how, perhaps two weeks earlier, they had been at a carnival and had actually ridden a very similar swing ride.
Now all their little princess, dolls, and animals can share the experience!
There is a second model that you can build with the pieces. In a few weeks when they get bored of this, we'll build the next one.
I was able to score this on one of the big sales Amazon has periodically. Otherwise, at this price, I'd consider some of the other kits including a simpler, smaller swing ride. They have a ferris wheel which has two alternate assemblies including a swing ride.
K'nex 3 Feet Tall Ferris Wheel - Builds 3 Models Including Swing Ride and Boom Ride - 1000 pieces
K'Nex Super Swing
We initially though we were missing two pieces but found one tucked in the instructions and another had wandered away with our 2 year old.

Description of K'nex Swing Ride- 853 pcsStep right up and construct your very own cool carnival creation. With a gazillion K'Nex pieces, you can put together a giant swing ride that's three feet wide. It spins and twirls just like a real carnival ride! Includes instructions for two models. Requires 2 "AA" batteries, not included. Measures 3' wide when assembled. 853 pieces. | | The K'NEX swing ride fully constructed. | K'NEX has always been pushing the boundaries of construction toys, and they have created award-winning products in the process. They aim to inspire creativity, build self-confidence, and encourage interaction among children and parents. | | The alternate construction of the K'NEX swing ride. | K'NEX swings into action in their Thrill Ride line of construction toys with the K'NEX swing ride. The ubiquitous centrifugal ride has been gracing carnivals for decades, and now you have the chance to create one at home. Using 853 original K'NEX rods and connectors, build from scratch a swing that really rotates. Reaching over two feet tall and three feet in diameter, the swing ride rewards determination and imagination. Construct the base, swing, and motor and watch as your machine comes to life. It's fun to see imaginations run wild, and when the child has mastered the swing, K'NEX has included instructions to build an alternate thrill ride. The K'NEX swing ride takes the traditional puzzle, makes it three dimensional, and adds interactive play. If you have had some experience with K'NEX toys, then construction is fairly straightforward, but even without prior use, little time is needed to get acquainted. Patience is important, and a child that is determined to finish puzzles will take to this toy. The swing ride provides hours of fun for the little builder in your life, however, with many small plastic pieces and moving parts the manufacturer recommends this toy for ages eight and up. The motor requires two AA batteries to rotate, and these are not included. --Scott Teal
