My daughter received this shortly after she turned 2. The KidKraft brand was new to me so I did a little research. It turns out the funny light-colored wood constructing this toy is actually Rubberwood, " now advertised as an 'environmentally friendly' wood" per Wikipedia. NOT a pressed formaldehyde-laden wood composite (unless it is compressed rubberwood??). The KidKraft site also seems pretty on-the-ball in my opinion as far as safety is concerned.
We play with this toy most every day, it keeps my intelligent toddler entertained for longer periods of time than many of her other toys. It acts as a puzzle and the candles are a blast to take apart and 'blow out'. Im certain she will enjoy this for a long time. Oh, its prettier in person.
