Toys and Games Reviews of Eyeclops Bionic Eye Multizoom, GreenCustomer Review: Zoom In for Fun! Summary: 5 Stars
This was the favorite toy at our place this Christmas. It was purchased for a 6YO cousin, but all the kids (and adults!) were clamoring over it. It was so easy to use - take it out of the box, fill it with batteries and plug it into the TV!
It does take 5 AA batteries. Fortunately, we had them ready. It worked fine with rechargeables. We tried it on 3 different TVs and had good results with all three. I was prepared for it to be difficult to focus, but it worked great for us. Just be a little patient with it and you'll get some great results. The pictures on the TV were very sharp.
There are 3 levels of magnification - 100x, 200x, and 400x. It's not like a microscope where you have fine tuning, but you can adjust the distance at which you hold it slightly.
This is a very cool toy. I may buy one for us too!
Customer Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
I should have listened to the poor customer reviews. It was not easy to work (hard to get the image to come up on the screen, hard to focus). It seemed like you had to have the device right on top of the thing you wanted to see (in other words, you could not point it at something and easily get the image to come up on the TV). It was not very forgiving in that respect and took a lot of patience to get any image on the screen and once you did, it was pretty anti-climactic. I was really disappointed at the difficulty of use and certainly could not expect my 6-yr-old nephew to find this thing fun and entertaining. We played with it for about 15 minutes on Christmas day and I decided it was a dud and am returning it. My nephews have not even noticed that they don't have it.
Customer Review: Captures the attention of both adults and kids Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased this toy for our then 5 year old son last Christmas. It was so simple to plug into the tv and then voila - let the fun begin. The magnification makes everyday objects so interesting to look at, and much easier then trying to use a mircroscope. With two boys, it became a competition of who can find the grossest thing to look at, skin, scabs, warts, moles, wrinkles. Whenever we bring it out Eyeclops draws the attention of everyone around and everyone wants a chance to use it. It is a good way to spark the curiousity and we've enjoyed this product. Occasionally it is hard to focus if it isn't sitting directly on/over the item you are trying to magnify, but that is only a minor setback, because the kids quickly move on to find something different to check out.
Customer Review: Focus issues Summary: 3 Stars
I love the idea of this toy. The main problem is that it is hard for my kids to work it. Sure, they can hold the eyeclops up to any object, but getting the item in focus was really a challenge for them. It took quite a bit of effort for us, the parents, to focus the images. As soon as it was clear enough to see the image, my kids wanted the eyeclps back to "see" something else and then the next item would need to be refocused. I hated taking the toy away from them to "fix" the focus problem, but my kids could not get a clear image for themselves. My kids quickly became bored with all of the time it took to focus the eyeclops and frustrated that they could not see things with it without our help. Needless to say, they have not played with it since.
Customer Review: We'll see if the replacement I ordered works. Summary: 2 Stars
My 5 year old was so excited to plug this in to start to see things. It was really neat at first. The 400 zoom doesn't work so well (it was hard to get things into focus). But that said, we didn't work at trying it very hard, as within the first 10 minutes, it quit working. I thought it was weird that the batteries didn't last very long, so we put in new batteries. Only that apperantly wasn't what the problem was. It just no longer had power of any kind. Amazon Customer service was very helpful though, and issued me a refund and a mailing label so I can return the defective one. My daughter still wants it, so I am ordering a new one and hopefully it will work. (I am not holding my breath- although when we had it working it was very cool).
