only downside thus far is we either lost the little focus ring in the birthday unwrapping excitement or it wasn't there to begin with (I dug through all the trash never found it but it was for my 4 year old son and he... well if you got little kids you know how things get lost) anyhow nice "toy" to get a kid excited about science as said my son got it for his 4th b'day and while not overly excited about it he has enjoyed it quite a bit. He's been able to use it by himself with the slides that come with it and he was pretty excited to see a mosquito close up that I put on the slide and focused in on for him.
