Customer Review: Made well, difficult to play even for an adult

While this violin is of excellent quality, my three year old has difficult getting the instrument to make sound. I find it difficult myself, also. The violin has a rubber piece (the green square in the center of the instrument) that you move back and fourth using friction from the plastic bow. The plastic/rubber combination sometimes does not create enough friction to make the music play. If the violin has no input from the bow for a second or two it continues the tune automatically. This can get frustrating. I wish it gave you more time before it switched over to automatic.
Age wise, just turning three seems a little young to me for this toy, because of coordination issues. I'm not sure if the toy would hold the attention of kids much older due to the fact that the instrument doesn't generate any sound, it only plays pre-recorded sounds.
Bottom line, I don't hate it but my daughter doesn't use it very often either. She likes her toy guitar with real strings and real sound much better.
