Toys and Games Reviews of Tomy GearationCustomer Review: Never got the attention we thought it would Summary: 3 Stars
My parents purchased this as a toy to have at their house when my daughter visited. We had high expectations, it looked like it would be a awesome toy.
She was a little over 2 when they got it. She couldn't put it together herself but would enjoy doing it with grandma and would laugh at it but it never really got her attention. She'd play with it when we did but not otherwise. We thought as she got older, it would get more use but that never happen. Once she was around 3 1/2 - 4 she could use it by herself but again it just didn't keep her attention. She loves puzzles and other games where she builds or puts things together so not sure why this didn't keep her attention but it doesn't.
My parents have had this toy for around 2 years now and it still works fine - we haven't had some of the issues other reviewers have had but it didn't get used a ton either.
Customer Review: Great toy that keep my son busy for hours Summary: 5 Stars
This is my favorite toy. I love it first seen on Baby Einstein series. We planned to use it to our almost 2 year old son (I know the product is suggested for 3+YO) on our trip to Asia (20 hours flight). The board is a little too big for traveling but worth a try. As planned, he stayed put in his seat the whole flights. What kids will not like it? It is cute design and colorful, has moving parts that can turn in both directions, slow or fast.. And it is magnetic so won't fall off the board when he carried the whole thing around the house. It has been few months now and he is still love it everytime I pull it out. His creation has gone wide. He put Lego blocks tower on top of the moving face and see how they move, or fall down. only problem I found is that the black color on the board can be scratched out easily. I just hope it won't make its way into our kids' mouths.
Customer Review: Great toy for parents too... Summary: 5 Stars
My son received this toy for Christmas 2001, at the age of 14mos. He absolutely LOVES it! He carries it around w/him, and at bedtime he uses it as an excuse to delay "sleepy-byes." I think this toy has enormous learning potential. He rearranges the gears all the time, and if it gets stuck, he usually figures out which one is causing it to stop. He doesn't always enjoy me helping to move the gears, so sometimes, after he has gone to bed, I play with it myself, just a little. The only setback I've had with this is that it quit working shortly after he got it. The center "driver" wouldn't always spin, and it wouldn't spin all the gears at once, just a few at a time, but I had Grampa take a look and fix it. P.S. I am very excited to learn that there is an add-on, Gearation Amusement Park, to go along with this set. Great toy!!
Customer Review: We own 2! Summary: 5 Stars
We own two of these wonderful toys and keep one on our coffee table. I have to keep track of the "gears or magnets" but it is well worth the effort. Everyone who comes into our home is fascinated by this and is always playing with it. Our 6 & 3 year old play with this constantly. I would recommend this for ages 2 1/2 or older. The switches are large enough and easy enough for little hands to manipulate. I sometimes have to help with setting up the first one correctly in the center so it will turn but our little guy is getting the hang of it. I see a real sense of pride & accomplishment on little faces when they have all the gears turning. I highly recommend this toy. It is one you can play with your child. Ours really love them.
Customer Review: Fun & Creative Summary: 5 Stars
We've had this toy for four years now, with no problems. We of course have had to replace the batteries over the years, but that's about it. I'm wonder about the "noise" that some are complaining about. When the battery gets low, the gears sometimes don't have enough power to make them rotate well. It will making a clicking noise and sometimes they will get stuck. We just re-adjust some of the gears. This adds to the fun, because you have to find which one isn't making them all work together. That's the beauty of gears! Ours has stood up to two boys, the youngest can be very hard on toys. He's even stood on this one and it's still working!! The neighbor girls always find it when they visit. We have really got our moneys worth out of this toy!
