Toys and Games Reviews of iFly Vamp (colors may vary)Customer Review: Excellent flyer both indoors & out! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been flying R/C planes for over 20 years now and ornithopters for about 5 years. Once in a while I'll pick up one of these R/C toy-grade products to try them out and usually they're pretty disappointing. But the iFly Vamp is quite a surprise! To start with it comes in impressive packaging, it's so pretty you almost want to just leave it in the box and display it that way! It comes "ready to fly", there is no assembly other than putting 6 AA batteries in the transmitter. It is pretty small (and very cute) at just under 12" wingspan and 8" length and it plugs into the transmitter to charge. The foam body and mylar wings/ tail are extremely durable. It has a lithium polymer battery, so it can be stored on the shelf for over a year and maintain its charge. Flight times are typically around 8 minutes although I've gotten over 10 minutes a few times. The Vamp is frequency-controlled (some R/C toys are infrared and thus not suitable for outdoor flight due to sun interference) and has a very, very good range. I've had mine so high that it was little more than a dot and it remained completely controllable. It is two channel, the left stick controls the throttle (and is a spring-loaded lever) and the right stick is for directional control (left-right). Because it is so small and light and is only 2 channel, it needs calm conditions for outdoor flight. But in calm conditions, it's really a wonderful little flyer! If you're not familiar with ornithopters, they fly via flapping wings. They're really fun to watch! The Vamp is also a nice indoor flyer, I fly it in my living room now and then. The space is about 12' x 14' which is right at the limit of being enough room to fly in, but it's light enough that it doesn't hurt anything it hits. And being very durable itself it never sustains damage in these mishaps either. Basically you just pick it up and launch it again.
I also have the iFly Wasp which flies just as well (it's the exact same ornithopter, only the body is different).

With 20 to 30 minutes of charging, flights of ten minutes or more can be attained. Comes ready to fly, no assembly required. Two frequencies available. Includes R/C transmitter, flight battery and instructions. Requires 6 "AA" batteries, not included.
