This was a gift for my son and he just loved it. What was really great was that the whole family could enjoy the butterflies (even the cat, though maybe not in the same way). The net is durable and you can rig it to hang if you want but we left it on the table. The woman who gave it to him as a gift ordered the caterpillars also and she was able to specify the date they were to arrive. They came on time but they already were forming into their crysalis so by the time he opened his gift, they were already hanging upside down. It was July and a particularly hot time and when I called the company they explained that the process can be faster in the heat. But, they said without hesitation, they would send out a coupon for FREE (no shipping costs, either) caterpillars so that we can order them again once the weather cooled down. Within the week we had the voucher! They valued our experience and I will remember that in future purchases.Customer Review: Butterfly garden

This product is great IF you know in advance what you are purchasing. When you buy this habitat, you receive a user manual and a pop-up nylon, circular 'tent.' You have to order the caterpillars separately and there is an additional shipping charge of a few dollars. You simply call the number provided and let them know when would be a good time for you to receive the caterpillar package. Once we received the caterpillars, my kids were hooked. They loved it! We made a 'butterfly journal' and they kept track each day of what was happening. We had a very positive experience from start to finish and I would definitely order from this company again. The great thing about the butterfly habitat is that it can hold a variety of insects or animals. We found some gecko eggs in our garage and even hatched them inside our butterfly garden. I highly recommend this product for anyone who has children interested in nature.Customer Review: Perfect for kids!

What an amazing opportunity for kids to watch the life stages of a butterfly! I knew I'd have to pay for the $3 to get the larvae but sent for it with my code online and it came within a few weeks. The best part about the larvae is that you don't even have to open the container it comes in or feed them until they make the chrysallis. Then, all you do is pin them onto the inside of your butterfly "house." It's so easy to take care of and my 7, 5 and 2 year old kids absolutely loved it! None of them was bored or grew tired of watching the butterflies emerge and fly around. The instructions for feeding the butterflies were clear and so easy to follow. They just drink sugar water that you can put on cotton balls. Once the kids had watched them for a little while, we let them go in our backyard. What a fun, educational, exciting gift to give your kids! I would definitely re-order the larvae and start all over again.Customer Review: Worked as advertised

I will say I was concerned that when the caterpillars first arrived they were pretty sluggish to the point where I thought some might have been dead. After about 2 days it was obvious all 5 were alive. 9 days after arrival we had them hanging off the top of the container the caterpillars came in. About 9 days after that we had 3 of the 5 butterflies. The next day at daycare the other 2 came out of their chrysalises. Now we're feeding them sugar water until we release them in a few days.

I purchased this set for my 4 yr old daughter last Spring. Ours (purchased from a warehouse store) came with a coupon for free larvae (no additional cost at all), a large mesh garden, a poster, a dropper for feeding the butterflies and a flower garland. We sent in the coupon and within 2-3 weeks, got two containers of larvae in the mail. We followed the instructions and during the next several weeks, enjoyed watching the larvae grow into caterpillars that turned into 10 beautiful butterflies. My daughter and I truly enjoyed this experience and releasing them outside and seeing them fly away was a very special moment. I want to mention that some reviewers indicate the process could potentially be too gross for young kids to handle (due to the release of meconium) but we didn't find that to be the case at all. This is a great product and we are looking forward to growing butterflies again next Spring.
