The jar has a nice see through area - but the lid is difficult for little hands to get on and off - and the handle has to be turned down in order to do it. (Handle popped off the first time we did it - you would have to keep putting it back on.) I have the other one with a little door on the end that is easy to slide open. Other downside - the jar is slippery so bugs don't crawl around in it like they do on the screen bug house. No - not the best ever bug jar. And with three grandsons - I should know.
