I set out this economical little butterfly feeder in the yard in December when most of the flowers were gone but there were still occasional Monarchs flying around. It took a few days but then a few butterflies actually landed on it and started sipping nectar. The plastic "flowers" are a bit slippery for the insects to hold on to but they managed by grabbing onto the felt-like wicks. I roughened up the "flowers" with some coarse grit sandpaper which provided a better landing surface. While nothing can replace actual flowers, if you have seen butterflies flying around but have few flowers, this little item may help tide them over the lean times.
