OK, so you won't learn anything from this toy, BUT these things are hypnotic to watch. If you saw the commercial on TV you know the more the merrier. One thing we learned quickly is you need something to contain them or they WILL find every crack, nook, hole, and seemingly other dimension to disappear into. All you need is something flat, smooth, with about a 1/2 inch lip on it to contain them. These things are amazing. If they turn upside-down they will right themselves. There only drawback is that the button battery doesn't last very long. The baby boomers out there like me will remember the vibrating football game where the table vibrated and the players moved across the metal field. I think the guy that invented these things remembered it too. Oh well, GOOD FOR HIM !!!Customer Review: It Has a Mind of It's Own

They're really fun, my friend gave me one today and it is awesome. They have a mind of they're own, though. When it turns over, it flips right back up. It's so funny watching them, too. My friend's dog was watching it and sniffing it and going like, "What?" Though I advise you not to use it near a fridge. Because I did and it roamed around there for around 5 minutes until I dug though the dust to get it back. They can go on any flat surface, though it doesn't go very fast on carpets. And if you have a very still arm, it'll even run around on your arm. If you're wondering how it turns, it turns randomly every few seconds. I recommend this toy for anyone who wants to have a little robot pet, a small companion, or anything else.

These little vibrating bugs scurry around our bare floors, turn themselves around when they hit the wall and turn themselves back over if they are ever overturned. They are great fun the watch and the cats love them (supervised play only as they are small enough for them to possibly eat). They also last a long time on their original battery and replacing the battery is easy. Our cats love them more than a laser pointer as they can actually touch these bugs and flip them up into the air or bat them around. When the bugs run under furniture or plants it just drives them wild as they race around trying to catch the bugs on the other side. Love it, but it eats through batteries. That's not especially surprising, but is worth noting for anyone who is purchasing these. I wish they were rechargeable. They will probably be put up to be taken down on weekends as the kids LOVE them so much that they've already gone through two batteries each, and they've only had them two days!
But they are awesome. It's great for little kids, we talk about how they will respond to different things- will they knock over the block? Push it to the side? Turn around? Do they move faster on wood or cardboard? Etc, etc. You can also build mazes with heavier weight materials, it will push past lighter weight blocks.

We bought the Hexbug Nano Habitat and two additional Hexbug Nanos for my 6 year old son for Christmas. We were looking for one last gift and the reviews of this product spurred us to make the purchase. Four days after Christmas, and this is still the hit of the day. He has been building and rebuilding their habitat and watching them go, all while laughing and sliding around on the floor and narrating their adventures. He's even begun to try to find his own ways to expand their world.
I can't yet attest to how long the batteries run, but after 3-4 days of fairly heavy usage, they appear to still be going strong.
