These small bugs are a lot of fun to play with no matter your age. In fact, our cats and dog have a great time playing with them too. The price is well worth the hours of amusement these little buggers provide. It also comes with an online code but we have not used this option yet.
The package comes with the battery already in, all you have to do is switch the on/off button underneath the bug and watch it go. We also have the habitat which makes it easier to keep them contained; otherwise, be prepared to crawl under furniture to find them.
The Nano bugs work best on floors or any other hard surface. They won't move an inch on carpets but can negotiate a well made bed. I know when my kids are playing with the Hex bugs because I hear lots of giggling. Once or twice a Nano bug has been placed on me to creep me out and I have to say, they are too bug like for comfort.
I highly recommend this toy for: boys, husbands, cats and dogs. I love watching the aforementioned group's joy as they play with these tiny little creepy robotic bugs.

As you learn at the Hexbug website, when you buy a Hexbug online, you get a random color. The one I got is black, which is fine with me.
My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter loves it ("Hey you bug!," "Come 'ere you buggy!," she rocks it to sleep after turning the button to 'off', then wakes it up, etc.), one cat I know (the one in my granddaughter's family) is scared of it, the other (mine) is fascinated by it (but seems to know that unlike real bugs, it's not something to bite into). Because it can get away from one pretty easily on a wood, tile, or linoleum floor (no good on carpets), when I have it out I either put it in a space that has boundaries (e.g., where it can't get under a refrigerator or behind a stove, etc.), or I create a boundary with a piece of rope or whatever is handy.
I want a second one, so I can have two Hexbugs interact.
A fun toy that I think many a child and immature adult like me can enjoy!

Got this for my little sister for Christmas and she kept saying, "THank you! Thank you! I've always wanted one of these!!" and she got up and gave me a big hug... it was awesome. Little kids in general (she is 6), love these kind of things, things that you can interact with a little, that actually move pretty damn good on our Wood floor!
It is very fast and speedy, it likes to go everywhere, even under the couch and back out on it's own... but you got to watch for it though, where it goes, because until you turn it off it's gonna keep moving. It looks pretty cool on the outside as well.. You can get different colors if you wanted to.. such as Blue, Red, etc. Also on their website..
One other thing, it's a pretty good Cat toy as well, Cats will chase it all over the place...
5/5 all around..

My grown daughter actually gave us one of these for our two cats. Because it will turn around at obstacles and right itself if it turns upside down, it is a perfect toy for curious cats, and frees you from whipping around a feather toy. Needs a smooth floor; wood or tile. Will not work on carpet.
My grandkids (ages 5 and 2) also were fascinated by them so we got one for each for Christmas. A 2-year-old should be monitored when playing with it so they do not put it in their mouths. Then put it away until another time.
Of all the things they got, you know what happened...this was their favorite. (We also sent a good supply of batteries. They do use up their batteries fairly quickly. Try to find a cheap place online to buy them rather than buying the ones displayed with the hexbugs.)

My 10 year old son got these for Christmas yesterday, and is totally loving them. He and is sister(6) and cousins(7,4) have been playing with them continuously. They are small and cute, but creepy. The legs are rubber and the vibration of the body causes the bugs to move. They seem to be very durable so far. They are fun to watch and move very quickly. Some one said they eat up batteries, which are the button kind. We just got them 24 hours ago and are okay so far, but I plan on buying some batteries to have on hand as backup! Two other notes...
We did get a variety of colors. We use Amazon Prime so I was able to buy from different suppliers, and 2. We bought the battle area and we received the actual battle arena. Other buyers said they had problems with both. ENJOY!
