In addition to being fun, playing family games can be "quietly educational" (i.e., we know the kids are learning something, but it's not the overt purpose of the interaction). Yahtzee, a classic in its own gaming right, is also a wonderfully educational game. Consider how quickly young folks just beginning to grapple with addition and subtraction pick up the necessary skills when their score is on the line. Yahtzee is noisy, wonderful fun that everyone in our family enjoys. Unlike games targeted specifically for little ones (think Candyland and Chutes and Ladders), Yahtzee excites players old and young and in between. Yahtzee is a really fun dice game that everyone in the family can enjoy. While the game is based on chance and the roll of the dice, it takes brains to decide which category you want to fill in. Should I use the 3 ones, for the 1 category or the 3 of a kind. What is the probability that I will get a better 3 of a kind or more 1's? These are the decisions that you have to make when playing Yahtzee. As the game progresses you usually have to decide which boxes you will cross out and how many points will you take for your Chance score? It's a fun game and I think it can be educational as well.Customer Review: A classic

Without a doubt, Yahtzee is one of the most addicting games ever made. It's also one of the best because it's a lot of fun. You roll 5 dice, trying to get as many yahtzees (5 of a kind) as you can. Of course, you won't get yahtzees that often, so you win by getting the highest score. You can also score by getting things other than a yahtzee with the dice, such as a large straight, full house, 3 of a kind, and even by just counting the numbers on the dice. Yahtzee is a classic and anybody who likes playing fun games should get it.

I have been playing Yahtzee since I was 6, and I get as much enjoyment out of it now at age 37 as I did over 30 years ago. If you've never played the game, you are in for a treat. Players role 5 dice and try to rack up points by rolling the most 1's, 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, straights, full house, etc. And if you get 5 of one kind? Yahtzee! A big score!
Strategy plays a big role in this game, and it can easily be said that half the games I lose, I do so because of my mistakes.
Yahtzee is a true family classic.

I was looking for a great way to spend family night and decided on yahtzee. I chose this game for a five reasons. 1. Fun educational way to help my daughter with math. 2. It is my childhood favorite game 3. Great way to get family together 4. The games are pretty quick so more likely to do them once every two weeks before bedtime. 5. It also is a great game to pull out when you have a group of friends over that kids can join in with as well.
A GREAT game to have! I recommend everyone own a game of yahtzee!
