Toys and Games Reviews of Trouble Board Game

Customer Review: I liked it the best!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I think I liked this more than my daughters; it brought back so many wonderful memories of my own childhood. My girls (ages 4 and 5) got to practice their counting, and can follow the rules pretty easily. The only thing they can't seem to catch onto, is thinking ahead and counting out their other "pegs" to see if they can send another players pegs back "home." So, I have to lay back sometimes and miss my chance to send them home, too... cause when I was winning all the time, they didn't want to play with me anymore! Overall a lot of fun, educational enough to help with counting, and the only downside is the little pegs can get lost... and their is not replacement package, so you'd have to buy a new game, or make your own peg. We are missing one peg, even though we always put it back in the box... we somehow lost one peg. So, we keep our players to three, instead of four. Put those pieces in a ziploc bag and you should be fine, as it doesn't have quite as many little pieces as most games.

Customer Review: My kids don't get into Trouble.
Summary: 3 Stars

My two boys received this game as a gift a few days ago, and I was rather happy about that because I was thinking of buying this game for them myself.

Well, it proved to be too much of a logical leap from the simple board games my young boys have played to date to this beginning level strategy game. Your milage may vary on this point, but two aspects of this game that didn't help were:

First, the "Pop-o-matic" takes considerable force to operate. My five year old had to put his full 50lb body weight onto it just to get it to work, and it was difficult for my old son to operate too.

Second, the "have to roll a six to get to start" rule is stupid. You just wait forever to get to even start to play. We changed the rule so you can start with either a six or a one, and that helped a little bit.

Sadly, my kids lost interest after about 10 minutes. So, another unloved game in the game pile.

Customer Review: Danger! May not be as much fun as you remember!
Summary: 3 Stars

Trouble is basically the same game as Sorry! or for that matter Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. In any of these games, the game can take an exceptionally long time if you or your pieces keep getting sent back to the beginning. In any of these games, a cheating or difficult child can make a long game feel intolerable. By the time my 4 year old hits the zone when he can play this game without cheating or otherwise driving us crazy...my 7 year old will be 8 or 9, and will she still be interested? Perhaps.

Anyway, the point of this review is a warning -- if games in this category (go backwards/forwards based mostly on luck) are not working for your child yet, i.e. and the cheating or not getting it and resulting acting up is driving you nuts, dont buy this one. You might think maybe it will be better, based on your fond memories. Its not better. Its the same basic mechanic, and takes a good while to play.

Customer Review: Pop-OH-Matic FUN!
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this game with the intent to use when kids come to visit. HOWEVER, as we fondly remembered this game from our youth, we opened it right away and we play it ourselves near our pool or out on our front porch.

We laugh as much as kids while we play! And we are (allegedly) sane people in our late 40s!

My only gripe about this game is that the carton it came in (not shipping carton, the game carton Milton Bradley made) was so thin that it was partially crushed. Luckily the game inside was fin.

The clear plastic game board has a printed carboard insert you install yourself that is very cheaply made. I suppose MB did this to cut corners but like so many things from my youth the craftmanship is now so different .

Any matter, for the money it is a lot of fun and the pop cube is sturdy.

If you buy this game, don't just save it for the kids, play it yourself!

Customer Review: Fun and Educational
Summary: 5 Stars

I think the recommended age for this product of 5 years and up is a little off. My son loves this game. He has been playing it since he was 3. The die in the bubble has numbers on it instead of dots which help kids recognize them.

This has improved my sons counting abilities and number recognition. He loves smashing mom and dad's pieces and sending us back to our start positions. He comprehends the concept of the game perfectly and begs us to play with him all the time.

My daughter is nearly 3, but doesn't quite understand the game. She loves to play with us but putting the pieces on her fingers (they fit perfectly!) and pushing the bubble. Soon, she will get more into it and will be able to play with us for real.

This game has increased family time in our house and countless hours of fun. Any household with preschool children must have this game!
