Customer Review: Somewhat of a disappointment
Summary: 3 Stars
Since I was a kid and bought my first Transformer figures, I'd say that Prowl was probably always my second favorite figure, next to the original G1 Optimus Prime. While I still have some of my original figures from my childhood, one of the figures that was lost over time was my original G1 Prowl. So, I was really looking forward to this figure because of the very close resemblance to that original figure.
Unfortunately, I have to say that I'm somewhat disappointed after making this purchase. I have two major complaints:
1. I know that the newer figures are all plastic with no diecast parts like the G1 toys had, but this one feels extremely cheap and flimsy. I have some of the newer movie line Transformers figures, and while they feel cheaper than the originals b/c of being plastic, they are still pretty solid figures. This Universe Prowl just doesn't feel nearly as sturdy as those other newer figures.
2. The figure is very difficult to pose well, and in robot mode he almost looks knock-kneed (even on the box art). The figure is back-heavy, so in order to get him to stand well, its almost necessary to bend his knees back and inward. I can eventually get him to stand without too much knock-knee, but for him to stand very solidly, there just about has to be a little of that.
I'm not so disappointed that I won't keep the figure, I just wish it didn't feel so cheap and flimsy, and that the legs allowed for better poseability. Otherwise, I'm still glad to have this in my collection, especially until I either buy another G1 Prowl or find the one that I had when I was younger.
UPDATE August 12, 2009: I found something I had previously overlooked that helps slightly with my complaint about poseability. I had missed a step in the instructions that shows to flip out a "heel" on Prowl's feet after flipping the feet forward. This helps to make the figure stand up with a little more sturdiness. While it doesn't completely resolve the issue, it does help some.
