Customer Review: a NIGHTMARE to figure out

I bought this for my 5 year old son fully expecting I'd have to help him with it in some way or other. My husband, sister and I all tried to figure this out last night with no luck. The instructions tell you how to transform it from the ship to the figurine, which is very easy. However, there are no instructions for how to transform it back. You may be saying, "Just reverse what you did" but given my son grabbed it first and shaped it into a figurine, I had no clue and the instructions just don't help. At this point today I've logged about an hour and 15 minutes trying to transform it from the man back to the plane and I was only able to accomplish this after searching YouTube for videos of how to perform the transformations. I do not get these toys at all - WAY too much work for the recommended ages on the box.
