Toys and Games Reviews of The Game of SCATTERGORIESCustomer Review: My Whole Family Loves This Game Summary: 5 Stars
We've been playing Scattergories at family holidays for about 5 years now, I think. The whole family joins in, from my 64-year old mother, to my daughter, who is 15 now, and we always have a fabulous time. Laughter and joking abound. I rate it as educational, because I believe this game had a hand in teaching my daughter to use creative language skills (i.e., adverbs and adjectives) and, of course, alliteration. You can always tell a great game by whether you enjoy it if you lose, and every member of my extended family always enjoys Scattergories. It sparks conversations and witty jokes - any time we've played this game, we've laughed until our ribs hurt.I highly recommend this game for parties, get-togethers and family events. It's a winner!
Customer Review: LOTS OF FUN Summary: 5 Stars
The game is a blast! To play with larger crowds I photo copy the answer sheets and lists, seperate them into bundles, and the extra people get to play along. This works better than teams in my opinion. Also per round I have people circle each "correct" answer then tally up winner for round and give winner a bingo chip. Person with most chips after the 12 lists winds the gaame! No more annoying paper scoring.
One thing is, you better decide on a system for veto-ing answers. I use a simple hand raise vote. I am a big fan of the "creative" answer but some people just are not. If there is a question of an answer being valid just have all those in favor raise there hands.
Great game, great fun. Needs expansion packs!
Customer Review: LOVE this game Summary: 5 Stars
Everyone gets a card with the same categories listed, example...foods in your refrigerator, things that you hide, athletes....
You roll a dice to determine what letter everyone needs to start each of their answers with, turn the timer over and write your answers down. You think it would be easy, but when trying to come up with answers that start with a particular letter, a lot of times you get stumped! The best part is if you write down a "loosely based" answer everyone has to vote to see if it qualifies. This is where a lot of laughter and debate comes in.
I recommend this game to anyone, but would probably have to say over age 13 is best.
Customer Review: Scattergories- fun for the whole family Summary: 5 Stars
Whe picked up this game after playing it at a cousin's house during a family party. The younger children were on teams with the adults so everyone could play. We had a blast! It was so much fun to play and the best part was arguing why your answer is correct or why someone else's answer is incorrect. This game is best for ages 10 and up, but younger children can always be on teams. Three year olds can also feel included in the game by let them roll the dice. After buying the game, we play it at our family gatherings or birthday parties. We even played it on New Year's Eve while waiting for the clock to strike 12. Scattergories is a must-buy!
Customer Review: A great game for anyone and everyone Summary: 5 Stars
This is a board game for anyone. Kids will like playing it at slumber parties, but they will also enjoy playing it with their grandparents. (so will the grandparents) College students would probably even enjoy playing it with their younger siblings AND their grandparents. Part of the enjoyment and educational value is hearing what words other people come up with for the various categories, and the more kinds of people playing, the more varied the words used. Its also a good choice for a family game because in my experience it's less likely to deteriorate into all-out warfare between siblings than scrabble (no, yzebec is not a word!)
