Toys and Games Reviews of Star Wars Clone Trooper Voice Changer Helmet

Customer Review: The Boys love it
Summary: 5 Stars

We decided to get this helmet for our 4 year old's halloween costume, rather then spend $15 for some cheapy costume mask. Yes, it required patience to get out of the box, but most toys do. Yes, it required even more patience to snap the pieces together, but following the directions help, and I found that when putting together the top and bottom of the back piece, if I slid the outside notches in on each side first, rather than doing the middle first, it worked out much better and made things alot easier. Then it was easy enough to apply pressure to the middle to snap it together. Putting together the front and back was pretty straightforward and did not require as much muscle. My youngest son loves this helmet alot, and yes he does look like a bobble head, but with proper fitting of the multi-adjustable strap, it fits him comfortably and stays on his head with normal movement. We ended up buying a second one for our 7 year old, and the experience I had with the first, cut down the assembly time to under 5 minutes. Since I had read of problems a few others had with these staying together, I took care to assemble both correctly, and as a result we have had no issues with them coming apart and find them to be very sturdy. The voice amplification microphone has to be pretty close to your mouth to really work properly, but the kids don't seem to care as much about that feature as they do the preprogrammed sayings.

Customer Review: Not for kids under 6
Summary: 2 Stars

This product is defintely cool, but very annoying. Here are my three issues with it.

1) durability
It doesn't stay together. It is comprised of 3 sections: a face, a back, and a top. The three sections are not put together very well, as the become seperated through regular play. I've had to push it together quite a few times and I'm going to just tape them now.

2)poor ventilation
The other big thing is poor ventilation. I was wondering why my 6 year old son did not wear this helmet for more than one house during Halloween night. My wife handed it to me and I put it on to wear around... I soon realized how hot it gets while wearing this helmet. There needs to be some holes drilled around the mouth piece and top of the helmet to allow more airflow.

3) microphone placement
The microphone is placed at almost the very tip of the chin area on the helment. My six year old's mouth rests far above the microphone when he has the helmet on his head. So what ends up happening is he doesn't even use the microphone at all.

Overall, I would not purchase one of these as a gift for a kid. Perhaps for an adult to just display in a work cubicle or something.

Customer Review: Star Wars Clone Trooper Voice Changer Helmet
Summary: 5 Stars

My 3 and a half year old grandson asked me if I would get him this helmet. He loves all the star wars movies and cartoons. He has all the star wars legos. As a supportive grandmother, I first read all of the reviews before buying. After making my decision to purchase this helmet, we waited patiently for the delivery. It arrived in 6 business days. We assembled the helmet without any problems. You need to read the directions and follow the pictures. We adjusted the helmet the smallest that we could so that he could wear it and be able to see through the eye area.
He didn't care that it was a little wobbly or slightly heavy. He loves pushing the buttons on the side of the helmet to hear the trooper giving orders and saying what's going on. The voice changer dosen't change your voice it only amplifies it. He dosen't like to use it.
I am happy with this helmet and my grandson loves it. Amazon was the best price that we found on the internet and in major stores, like Target and Wal-Mart. It has fallen on the floor more than a dozen times and it hasn't fallen apart yet. The secret is to make sure you snap it in place securely.
I would definately recommend this Helmet!

Customer Review: Lives up to expectations
Summary: 4 Stars

Our 8 yr old wanted to spend some Christmas money on this item. We were very happy to find it on Amazon for $25. We had looked at it in many other stores for anywhere from $30 - $50. I read him some reviews from here, particularly regarding the "voice changer" before purchasing, but he wanted it anyway.

He LOVES this toy. It does require snapping together, and was a little tricky, but not too bad. The "voice changer" does not. And the microphone does not reach his mouth, so he really does not use that part of the helmet. Nevertheless, he loves playing with it, and being a clone trooper. He is a little smaller than average, but has never complained that the helmet hurt him or was too heavy. Mostly he uses his own voice and commands. He wears it outside, playing imagination battle games. It has been dropped on hard floors several times, but has not broken.

Although this clearly is false advertising, regarding the voice-changing function (which doesn't), nevertheless, it was a good investment for Daniel.

Customer Review: Great cheap alternative to a expensive clone trooper helmet
Summary: 5 Stars

The clone trooper voice changer helmet is a very cool piece to own. Though it was marketed towards kids, adults can wear the helmet to bring out the inner kid in them. It's a bit of a hassel to put it together at first and when you need to put more batteries in it, its kind of hard to get take it apart to get the battery compartment. But after all that, its a fun toy to play with. The reason I got was so that I could customize it. I also made it look more like the ones from the cartoons. the visor on it though could've used a bit more peripheral vision on it. You can only see what's in front of you. When you go down stairs you have to almost take the helmet off to see where your going. But the features aren't that bad, there's two commands buttons on the side, and a voice button with "radio chatter" that you can talk through, but the mic is a bit lower that I would like. Overall a good role-play item to get your kid for christmas or birthday. And for you older Star Wars fans, it's a great helmet to customize with.
