Toys and Games Reviews of Rubik's Cube Brain Teaser Puzzle with Helpful HintsCustomer Review: we need rubikholics anonymous Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE THE RUBIK'S CUBE. i'm a senior in high school with way too many free periods, so what do i do when i have nothing to do? i bust out the rubik's cube. i can solve it in about a minute and a half or so. it's an amazing conversation piece. some people are so shocked after i finish it, and i'm just kind of like, "yeah, so?" because i've done it so many times that it isn't a big deal to me anymore. my biggest problem with it is the sticker problem. i've had my cube for almost four months and it's such a mess that i almost never play with it now because i'm scared of ruining it even more. the laminating stickers do not stick at ALL. when they start to come off, you get a lot of icky gunk, and then it comes off entirely and the color wipes off the sticker. it came off one of my yellow stickers and i had to write "YELLOW" on it in order to distinguish it from white. it's extremely annoying. what's even more annoying are the people who see that my stickers are falling off and assume that i'd rearranged them. :( at least the cube itself doesn't fall apart, so it gets a solid 3 for durability.
Customer Review: Greatest puzzle ever made - if the stickers didn't fall off! Summary: 5 Stars
This is probably the ultimate mind-expanding drug. I call it mind-expanding because it is marvelous for enhancing your spatial and mathematical capabilities, as well as changing the very way you look at problems in real life. I call it a drug because it is amazingly addictive! Once you scramble it (which is surprisingly easy), it will take you weeks, if not months, of obsessive frustration to solve it even once. Once you do, though, you will be hooked, and after a short time, you'll be blindingly fast at it. It took me 5 weeks to solve it initially, but less than two months after that, I was down to 5 minutes. However, there is one downside to the new, modern version of this magic cube: after those three months, my cube looked like it was older than me! The plastic over the stickers peeled off, and then...well, needless to say, my cube now has two white sides, like many of the other reviewers' here. So, I reiterate what they have said: Please, can the people at Oddzon make the Cubes like they were in the good old days, when they were as indestructible as a can of Spam?
Customer Review: Classic amusement Summary: 5 Stars
OK I'm old school. I'm still trying to solve the Rubik's Cube that I bought in 1981 as a souvenir from a beach in Delaware. I was seven when I purchased it, the unit is still in one piece, in good shape, and the joints on it are still tight despite it being 22 years old, having been disassembled and reassembled more times than I remember (I was never one for pulling the stickers off. Bring on the flathead screwdrivers!), and surviving several cross country moves. It's still a challenge for me to solve this thing. I was decent at it when I was a kid, but it was always difficult to solve. It's great intellectual stimulation, and it's also fun to collect the knockoffs of this that were made over the last twenty years. There are some with pictures on the faces, some with prismatic stickers, 5x5 cubes instead of 3x3 cubes, barrel-shaped ones, and even a pyramid shaped one called Pyraminx. I still have that one too. I recommend this toy for anyone six and above who likes puzzles. Kids under six will either have no interest or get frustrated and throw it into the wall. Cheers...
Customer Review: 1:19 record; it's SUPPOSED to come apart so you can put it back together Summary: 5 Stars
I hesitated to buy any Rubik's cubes because on all the reviews people said the cubes fell apart. My 10 year old son says they are SUPPOSED to come apart, because taking them apart and putting them back together is half the fun of it. My son spends all day long taking the pieces out and then putting the cube back together. The other fun part is timing my son to see if he can beat his record. He has studied all the algorithms on the internet and has become an expert. He tells one of the family members to mix up the cube, then we time him. When it takes him longer to put it back to the original formation, I tell him that whoever mixed it up is a good "mixer-upper."
This toy is great fun and occupies my ADHD kid for hours and hours and hours. I am very pleased to see him finding out for himself on [..]how to solve the puzzle.
This is kid-tested. If my hyper son is excited about this and it keeps him productively occupied, then this toy is WORTH IT.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Customer Review: Squeaky and Peely Summary: 1 Stars
I was playing with Rubik's cube the last time it was hot in the 80's, and I just recently bought a few of these. The first two I bought in a store was made by Winning Moves which work the way I remember the cube to be in the old days. Then I decided I want one in my office and order this one through Amazon because it offers free shipping for Prime Members.
This cube was bad right out of the package, and within three days of moderate use, the clear color stickers started peeling off the white background stickers on many of the faces. This cube is also very loud, sometime squeaky, and often get stuck when used in medium or high speed. There is a HUGE difference between this and the Winning Moves one.
I guarantee I have nothing to do with the Winning Moves company, and this is actually the first time I have disliked a product enough to write a review on Amazon. But there is no excuse for a bad version of a product that has been around for 30 years! Don't buy this version.
