Toys and Games Reviews of RiskCustomer Review: A Classic Forever! Summary: 5 Stars
Risk has been around for a long time, and do you want to know why? It's because it's a wonderful game that makes for a great time with your family, or with a group of friends. This is a game that definately takes strategy, not luck (well a little) like so many other board games that are out there. Risk can handle up to 6 players, and it's a game that lasts a really long time. The goal of the game is to wipe out all of the other armies on the map and take over the world (now who wouldn't like that in a game). If you like games like Stratego, or Monoploly, then you will like this game. The only downside to getting this game is the fact that the little army figurines are small and fairly easy to lose (thus the 4 star rating on durability), other than that this board game is very durable, and will last for many years.
Customer Review: This Game Sharpens the Mind!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This game well deserves its entry into the Hall of Fame. I could never count how many hours I have have spent pouring over this game board, planning attacks and alliances, watching my reinforcements build up, trying feints and misdirection, and generally having a good time. It is educational, as it teaches strategy, geography, and that all important skill of patience. The new edition is fantastic, with scuplted pieces replacing the roman numerals of my youth. They rules are simple enough that anyone can learn, yet they allow for a complex game. The only drawback is the many, small, looseable peices, but hey, it teaches responsibility as well. I highly recommend this game to anyone, boy or girl. (My wife plays it with me!) I could not think of a better introduction to the world of Stategy Board Games.
Customer Review: Game enthusiasts read on! Summary: 3 Stars
This is a great game for younger people who want an easy to learn strategy game with a good deal of random elements. I only gave the fun factor a three but I do remember that I used to love the game when I was younger. 15 years ago I would have given it a 5 for fun. Now that I am 30 and a more seasoned game player, the strategy is not as interesting and the game play is often stressful. Due to the fact that you have to single out another player to attack, arguments and hot tempers go hand in hand with this game. There are much better strategy games out there which are also less confrontational. I suggest "Settler's of Catan" and "Elfenland" for people interested in the trying best that the gaming world has to offer. These games, while fairly simple, have a more interesting balance to them.
Customer Review: A fave Classic for 3 Decades+++ Summary: 4 Stars
This is one of the greatest games of all times. Trust me- I have 200+ games in my collection spanning the past 30+ years, ranging from Axis & Allies to Risk to Careers to Outburst. And this ranks up there as one of my favorites.First of all, it is age appropriate for nearly anybody from 8 - 80. Secondly, there is a fine mix of strategy and luck involved in this game. Unfortunately, I Cannot Rate this Game as 5 Start as the same strategy can be implemented time and time again and then luck starts to play a greater and greater role in the game. Conquest of The Empire is a similar theme game which overcame this issue. Finally, you can adapt your own rules to this game to overcome the shortcoming listed above. Risk is incredibly fun, and should be a staple of any families collection.
Customer Review: GREAT Family Game Summary: 5 Stars
This game facilitates a wonderful blend of chance and strategy. I enjoy playing this with our family. There is never a dull moment, even when it's another player's turn, because they could choose to attack any other players' armies. Our 7-yr-old and 9-yr-old kids love this game, so even though the box recommends ages 10 and up, don't underestimate the desire (nor the ability) for your little one to rule the world! I compare the strategy needed to succeed in this game to the thought process required to play Chess, maybe not quite that technical and varied, but so many possibilities exist during each turn. It's not too hard for younger children when guided by older siblings or parents. Actually, my kids helped me remember all the rules when we first learned how to play.
