Toys and Games Reviews of Risk

Customer Review: Good game - but I miss the army boxes
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this game of risk to replace our old game, which was lost in a move. There are several differences in the new risk and the old risk. One difference is the mission cards. At first I was disapointed that the mission cards were not the same as the old risk, but after playing a few games, I admit that it is just as much fun. The other difference with the game is the lack of army boxes. The old game came with a clear plastic box to store each army color in. This game does not have boxes, just wells in the box to store each color. The clear boxes were quite useful during the game as you spend a lot of time taking armies out and putting armies in the box as you lose or gain reinforcements. I find the lack of boxes a pain as pieces fall on the floor etc. when you just have them piled on the table. However, it is still a great game and we are happy with this version.

Customer Review: Addictive classic game that can now be played in 90 minutes!
Summary: 5 Stars

The wonderful newer versions of RISK come with a Mission Card option which my family and friends are addicted to. Unlike the "olden" days when we were in high school or college and could stay up all night playing RISK for world domination, this new mission cards twist makes RISK able to fit in to our grown-up lives with kids and jobs and less stamina!

A Mission Cards game can last from one to three hours but has all the fun, strategy and challenge of a traditional looooooong RISK game. My mom, sister, husband and brother-in-law have been playing several times a week (racing home after work for a couple games) for over a year and it just gets more and more addicting.

It's my personal goal to tell all RISK lovers about this new Mission Cards option- I wish Parker Brothers would advertise the fact that RISK doesn't need to be an all-niter anymore. You'll just love it.

Customer Review: Very Fun Game, One Of My Favorite
Summary: 4 Stars

Board games are baced on the principle of a path with obstacles based on going back spaces, going forward, or going back to start, etc. Of course, board games are on the search now to be as innovative, creative, and most importantly as fun as possible. Risk is a classic, that features all of the traits. The board is a map of the world with many terrortories of the World. You get a set of armies and must strategically conquer the world. One of my favorite board games and VERY fun to play. The game can take FAR too long though, and for those prefering a quick game (i.e. Connect Four), it might not be the best.

In my opinon no educational value, though that isn't too important- it isn't a book, it's a toy. Also the durability is decent, the board is a trifold- and the creases wear out. The many small figures can get lost so be careful.

Customer Review: Risky
Summary: 5 Stars

Risk is the most stupendous board game ever. It comes with a global map, 5 dice (three red, two white) and 6 colors of armies: red, blue, yellow, gray, green and black. Each army has three types of men: a soldier, a horseman, and a cannon. There are three ways to play the game. There is Capital Risk, Mission Risk and Global Domination Risk. My favorite is Global Domination because you have to try to take over the whole map which could go on for 3 hours. The other types of Risk take about an hour. What I like to do is to skip my turn several times, only adding 3 or more men each turn. I build a very large army that way and then it looks like the Rohan's horse army in Lord of the Rings II and III. It's super! My only complaint is that the green, blue and gray armies blend into eachother and it's difficult to see who's who.

Customer Review: A Great Way To Spend Your Time On A Rainy Day!
Summary: 5 Stars

This game has more than once helped transcend the boredom of a rainy day, putting you on the path for world conquest! Not really all that fun unless you have at least 3 players, but once you do be prepared for a game that could take you all day to finish. Using strategy and the luck of the dice you must try to conquer the world, using little plastic pieces! That's right, no one is actually hurt in this game! Attack or defend, reinforce or (depending on how you play) retreat. This has all the elements of a war on paper, the strategy and gameplay can get extremely intense. A good diversion for you hardcore chess players! If you ever need a game to get you and your family through a boring, rainy day you might want to pick this game up the next time you go to your local toy store or heck, buy it from Amazon!
