Risk by Hasbro
Toys and Games Reviews of RiskCustomer Review: The Battle for World Domination Summary: 5 Stars
Chess was the first strategy game I ever played. Risk was the second. Risk is much less complicated than chess, and can be more fun. However, I recommend at least three players.
There are several ways to play Risk that can either yield a very long game, or a relatively short game. The basic game requires conquering the world, one country or region at a time. There is an element of luck. I have seen defenders with one third as many armies hold off an attacker and then counter attack on their move. I have been both on the attack side and the defending side in such situations. I have also seen large armies move with little opposition as an opponent gets one bad roll after another. When the game becomes that unbalanced it can be annoying for the person having the bad luck.
With multiple players each person tries to form alliances against adjacent players, while ultimately knowing they will have to attack the person with whom they formed the alliance. It is all in good fun as long as everyone is a good sport about the results. There is always another game!
Customer Review: One of the greatest board games ever created. Summary: 5 Stars
One regards "Risk" with a kind of awe. Few games, if any, have ever been so successful in standard form and developed into so many alternate versions. From middle school through to high school, my friends and I played the game often enough that we started to edit it, adding in our own rules to such a degree that, in retrospect, the standard form and rulebook seems a little blockheaded. But it was the standard form, and the fun had from playing it, that caused my friends and I to grow to like "Risk" so much that we paid it the ultimate tribute by making a sincere effort to improve it, if only amongst ourselves.
The possibilities for modifying the game and improving it on your own terms are endless, and the more sets of pieces you have the more players can be added in. Since the exact coloring of the standard sets of pieces has changed over the years, getting two sets that are a couple of years apart can allow, in many cases, 8 or more players on one board.
If you're looking to put together a collection of board games, put "Risk" on the list. You won't regret buying it.
Customer Review: Good for a first-generation game, now inferior Summary: 2 Stars
Risk used to be a fine game to play. However, that is before designer games began to gain popularity in the U.S. Risk, unfortunately, represents many elements that do not make a good game. 1) Mostly dominated by luck of the dice rather than strategy 2) Unbelievably long playing time 3) Eliminates players who must sit in boredom while the game continues. That said, it's not altogether bad. I obtained an updated copy and it's a nice-looking game which teaches people geography-- a definite weakness in the U.S. generally speaking. But 6 hours or more on a game which is mostly rolling dice can get very monotonous. I recommend looking for games that have a reasonable playing time (less than two hours), have a nice mix of strategy and luck, involve all the players as simultaneously as possible and which do not eliminate players. Settlers of Catan and Acquire are a good start. If you're really really bored and have many hours to kill, Risk is passable, but there are a litany of board games much more appealing by today's standards.
Customer Review: The Best Board Game There Is Summary: 5 Stars
The reason I only gave this game three stars for durability is because of all the little pieces. You have about six sets of armies, and each army has about 100 pieces, you are bound to lose pieces, but that can't be helped.
I first played this board game about 5 years ago, and did terrible. I hated the game and said I wouldn't play any more. A while later a friend convinced me to play again. I lost, but I now had a strategy, I played again, and again, and again.
This games is a perfect balance of luck and strategy. It is possible to be unlucky and win if you have strategy, and it is possible to have good rolls and win without strategy. The thing that makes this game so maddening, and yet so enjoyable is that in the end everything is up to fate. Does the dice land on a six or a five?
Younger kids can play this game, but they will get frustrated, so I recommend it for ages 12 and up.
By far the best board game out there, worth every penny
Customer Review: Now come on didn't you always want to rule the world!! Summary: 5 Stars
This game truly is the best board game that i have ever played and i only bought a couple weeks ago, it provides an excellent collection of tiny minatures and cards and requires quite a lot of strategy in itself the board is very colourfuland is quite easy on the eye's.
The game provides an excellent battle system that can really get you going, if you're looking for a game that will last a long time then the game is for you, if you're into war type strategy games then this game is for you.
If you want to buy this game you're going to have expect very long playing time with 3 players i would say minimum of four hours including setting up but you won't be bored you can always make your come back if things are looking grim and i found that using the mission rules for world domination is a really good idea if you want the game to end at all.
Once again the best board game i have ever played, i think you could agree.
