Toys and Games Reviews of Risk

Customer Review: ok
Summary: 4 Stars

when i first heard about this game i expected a lot more than it gave.my friends told me this game was good and they werent lyin there.its fun even though its missing core strategy and is focused around luck.4 example my cousin usually rolls sixes on his dice while i roll 4s so im afraid of attacking him. i do like that there are many variations of the game so if u get bored of playin it 1 way try another and u might like it betta.if u like strategy games and wars theres no reason u shouldnt get this.but word of advice:only buy this game if u have spare time during the week and enjoy making diplomacies.(even though its hard to in this game.)hope i helped u in makin the right decision.if you like this game and have a big budget,i would highly reccomend buying risk 2210a.d.

Customer Review: Why not Risk it with Risk!
Summary: 5 Stars

Quite simple RISK is one of the best, if not the best War/Stratigy game ever! Oh! there may be more realistic games, or one's that rely less on luck, even more chalinging games, but over all this game has it all! The combination of all those factors makes it great game for beginners or 30 year veterens. I never meet a war gammer who didn't start out with RISK. I've first time players beat much more experanced players.

Primarily, a game for boys, many girls like it too. A good starting age would be 11 or 12. Best played with 4 or more. And games can be long (I've played 6 hour games before) (2 to 3 is average). Also, the is versital. There are more rule variation than you shake a stick at!

I highly recommend RISK, I own 53 copies of it! It makes a great gift!

Customer Review: Good beginner set for wargaming.
Summary: 5 Stars

Risk has been played by myself for over 30 years. It is a game that you can invite your children, grandchildren, friends, etc. to play and to enjoy. It is my nefarious plan to attempt to find a few gems to like this game so much that they'll want more...then move on to more complicated games like "Axis and Allies" or "Russian Front".. maybe even Kremlin!

If you're looking for a simple introduction to wargaming, I invite you over to my home in Lincoln Nebraska for a game... maybe you'll like it so much, you'll want more...

Keep in mind that, even without the wargaming aspect of this game, it is fun, exciting, and more than a little frustrating to play.. but well worthwhile the time it takes to (as we try everyday) TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

Customer Review: A gaming classic.
Summary: 5 Stars

If you want a strategy wargame that will exercise your military genius, Risk is definately not the right game. However it appeals to much more people than would a focused wargame, because anybody can play. I gave it 5 stars for fun because I love it, and I've played it a lot with friends. You can play it with people who don't really care about l'ordre mixde or which marshal won the battle of Auerstadt. Because of its tremendous inaccuracy not many laymen would learn anything more than some basic geography. Only the cannon tails and the horses legs can break, but if you're not careful the pieces get lost fast. Nevertheless, Risk is a good game for hanging out and eating pizza. It's definately a classic game that must be in every gamers collection.

Customer Review: Simple, random, unfun
Summary: 2 Stars

Risk's overly simple rules make strategic thinking useless. The concept of the "turn" is invalidated by the ability of armies to attack (and advance) without limit. This means that a lone, large army can march across an entire continent--yes, an ENTIRE CONTINENT--in a single turn.

And that lone, large army can come from anywhere. Armies can sprout up anywhere, at any time. This means that a surrounded territory with a lone soldier can suddenly grow to a vast army in a single turn. This is unrealistic.

Once a player is on the ropes, there is virtually no hope of ever returning to the offensive and the game then drags on while the dominating player mops up. This is fun for no one.

If you want a fun, strategic game, DO NOT BUY RISK.
