Toys and Games Reviews of Risk: Lord of the Rings Edition

Customer Review: Trilogy Edition
Summary: 4 Stars

I found this version of Risk to be much more enjoyable than the original version. I have never been much of a Risk fan, mostly because of the degree of strategy that is involved, but mostly because of the emmense amount of time that is required to play (sometimes taking days for my brother and I to finish a game). The LOTR has added a twist to this classic game, though, by adding in the "one ring". This makes game play shorter, since the game can end when the ring reaches Mt. Doom, or if an evil player "finds" the one ring (optional rule). However, the new game rules are optional. Purists to Risks and fans of LOTR can still play until one player conquers Middle Earth.

As I said, I'm not much of a Risk fan, but I definitely enjoy this version of the game much more. My wife and I play once a week! And we'll have friends or family over to play as well.

Customer Review: Lord of the Rings: Risk
Summary: 5 Stars

Best Lord of the Rings game on the market! It is a lot better than the first and enables you to be apart of the journey as the rings travels from the Shire and eventually makes its way to Mount Doom to be destroyed. The map is also extended, which means more territories and even more fun as each player tries to fight the other and eventually take over Middle Earth. It's a blast!!!

Customer Review: I like it!

This is the best strategic board game I've ever played! The weak point of this game is that this doesn't help in school alot. But overall I give LOTR Risk 5*

Customer Review: Better than the original!
Summary: 5 Stars

Well-designed game. It has many of the elements I loved about the original Risk game, battle strategy, treaties (and betrayal), a nice dose of randomization to prevent absolute domination.

I like that there is a definite winner without the need to completely conquer the world (though that would certainly help). The point system lets the game end (even before the Ring gets to Mt Doom) and have a definite winner. I like the addition of mountains and rivers to restrict movement between territories. I love the event and quest cards, throwing surprises into the game.

Anyone who has played the original game much has eventually run into the situation where two opponents have an impossible army buildup along every front and likely ends up rolling once to see whose entire territory falls. Not so in this game. Trading cards for armies has been addressed (no more adding 80 armies for a trade in). The general flow of the game has a lot more give and take accross the board.

I would recommend this game for any strategy game lover, even if they aren't Tolkien fans.

Customer Review: A truly enjoyable game.

I am pretty new to the game of Risk, but I still found the interesting innovations placed in the Lord of the Rings version to be well worth the money. The map now has mountains and rivers that cannot be crossed There are also fotresses and "heroes" that add bonuses to your rolls for added advantages in certain fights. All these things add new dimensions to the strategy you can formulate to win. if your a Risk fan already, Lord of the Rings Risk is a good buy.
