Toys and Games Reviews of Rack-O Card GameCustomer Review: "Rack" your brain with Racko Summary: 5 Stars
Growing up, Racko was one of our family favorites. It came with us on our first camping trips in the 1960s and traveled with us all over the US. I distinctly remember by Grammie playing it with us around the table at home as well. After leaving home, Racko left my life. 38 yrs of marriage, four children and eight grandchildren later, Racko has returned. We needed a new game to take to our family vacation/ reunion at the Lake cottage and I found Racko again on Amazon. It was a huge hit -- it even won over Flinch (my husband's favorite card game) and over all the word games we usually plan on vacation.
The new Racko has tidbits of information on the cards about the number on the card, one or which was about the size of a horse and while horseback riding one day during vacation, our eldest son checked it out with the stable owner!! So the new Racko is a reliable source of numerical trivia. It also adds a new spin to the old game, allowing the players to take cards from other players and rearrange their own cards based on the special cards that come up in the deck. The instructions are excellent, and the game can be played as Classic Racko by removing the special cards.
The idea of Racko is to put the cards dealt to you and placed in your slotted card rack over the course of the game into sequential order. It is a challenge to the mind, depends on luck to a degree, and skill and strategy of the player.
Because it develops sequential math skills and also the tidbits of numerical trivia, uses logic and strategy etc. I would say it is a great educational tool as well, but my recommendation is to sell it to your kids as a fun game !! They won't even know the skills they are using. And it works equally well for those of us who are aging in keeping our thinking skills sharp !!
So "rack" up some fun with Racko !!
Customer Review: Fun for Kids and Adults! Summary: 4 Stars
My twelve year old neighbor and I play all different types of games and are always looking for something new and fun. Racko is great because it is an inexpensive way to reinforce basic math skills AND it's fun. We played for a couple of hours without getting bored and developed better strategies game by game.
I recommend Racko for kids as well as adults. If you are looking for cheap educational entertainment, this is one game where you can't go wrong. For families with younger children you can team up for a great way to get them learning while the whole family is spending time together.
When I was a kid we played a similar game that allowed me to start recognizing numbers even before I started school. These types of educational games give kids a jump start before they enter school and give school age children extra practice. It's a great way to spend time together as well as learn a thing or two.
Customer Review: Addictive! Summary: 5 Stars
My friends and I love this game! Whenever we start playing, it's often hours before we stop. While I haven't played this game yet with young kids, I imagine it would be an excellent tool to help kids learn their numbers, and how they all fit together. The fact that the colored tabs move right as the numbers get higher, is also a great visual cue to help kids (and adults who are caught up in the game!) know that their cards are in the right order. Whether with two people or three or four (the most I've played with), this game is fabulous fun. A great game to have at home, or at your cabin or on vacation trips. Also, it's a game that even people who don't really know each other can play together without problem. It's strangely addictive, too! If you play it one night, don't be surprised if the next night, someone says, "Hey, anyone want to play Rack-O again?"!
Customer Review: Rack-O Spans Generations Summary: 5 Stars
A cousin gave us oldsters Rack-o this Christmas as an add-on gift:The "real" gift was a magazine subscription, so Rack-o was something to put in our hands. We loved it immediately (the directions are quickly learned). We played under the Christmas tree and haven't stopped. This spring we took it along for a 3-week trip with two other couples, one English, one South African. They all caught on quickly and soon we were all obsessed. Rack-o got us very nicely through a 7 hour wait at the Atlanta airport! On a second spring trip, this time with family, we found our 8 yr. old granddaughter not only loved it but consistently beat us! Now at night before Millionaire's on -- or simply when TV is awful -- one of us will say, "How about Rack-o?" and the other is sure to say, "You're on!"
Customer Review: RACKO Summary: 5 Stars
Wow... do we love Racko! It's a fun game for you and your family. Anyone we've ever introduced to it loves it. We bring it on every vacation and to barbeques and other get-togethers and always have fun playing it. That said, I don't like this new version. I like the old version. The old version just had numbers ont he cards, and the point was to get them all in sequencial order. That, in and of itself is challenging. But this new version has "rules" written on the cards, like "switch two card in your rack" and "skip the next players turn".... it makes the game difficult and it makes it too easy for people to cheat. The REAL Racko gets 5 stars... the new Racko just gets 3. I recommend, if you can't find the original, to buy this and just don't play using the new rules.
