Toys and Games Reviews of Pooh CandylandCustomer Review: Buy the original, get something else with Pooh Summary: 4 Stars
I was very excited to get this game for my 3 year old daughter, who has a major Pooh fixation. While the idea of a Pooh Candy Land is cute, the execution doesn't quite work. The four playing pieces are Pooh, Tigger, Piglet & Eeyore, but they are just solid colored shaped pieces, not terribly exciting. The pieces are also a little large to fit comfortably on the Board spaces. The Board is decorated as the Hundred Acre Wood, but it also needs a bunch (8?) of stand-up inserts. The way these work is that you put the cardboard tab of the insert into the corresponding slot in the board and attach a plastic disc underneath the board. They are very cute and make the board 3-dimensional, but a 3-dimensional board won't close. So you have to set them up and take them off everytime you play the game. Of course, you might just give up and forget about them, but then what's the point, right? During game play, most things are the same as the regular Candy Land. The cards have either 1 or 2 colored squares. There are "special" cards that move you to a certain square. First one to the end of the path wins the game. The Pooh version "special" cards are the same cookie, ice cream, etc. from the original, versus the honeypot or pooh-type pictures you might expect. And let's not forget the strange Pooh version colors. Instead of easily recognizable primary colors on the board spaces and matching cards, these colors are just weird! When you play with your child, you're not quite sure what to call them. As with the original, there are a lot of good things about this game. Matching colors, taking turns, learning to play a game, moving one space or two, jumping ahead or falling back to a special space. There are a lot of small pieces - game markers, cards, cardboard figures and plastic discs. The markers are also quite brittle - step on one and it's toast! The cardboard figures also show wear quickly from being repeatedly put in and taken out of the board. I think Candy Land is a fun addition to a young child's toy chest, but I would get the less expensive classic version, and buy something else with Pooh on it. There is a lot of that to choose from!
Description of Pooh CandylandWinnie the Pooh comes to Candy Land! And you can, too! In this classic family board game, Pooh and his friends have planned a very special picnic in the Hundred Acre Wood. Move them along the Rainbow Path and pick up some yummy treats along the way. Pooh is preparing his specialty: honey-dipped gingerbread cookies! You Two old favorites often make a winning combination when they are brought together, as is proven here in this Pooh edition of Candy Land. Winnie the Pooh and his friends, Eeyore, Piglet, and Tigger, move along the winding path of the game board, picking up treats for a picnic in the 100 Acre Wood. No reading is required to play. Children draw cards and then use their color-recognition and symbol-matching skills to advance to the appropriate location on the board. Many adults will recognize this classic game from their own childhood and will enjoy sharing it with the kids now in their lives. A.A. Milne's familiar and enduring Pooh characters will ease children into the often-difficult concept of taking turns! --Wendy Slotboom
