Toys and Games Reviews of Playskool Step Start Walk 'n Ride - Colors May VaryCustomer Review: My son still loves this toy! Summary: 4 Stars
My son is 15 months old and still loves to push this around...except that now he runs through the house with it. He started walking at 10 months and this walker was good for him because it doesn't move super fast for a beginning walker (it's only when he learned how to run that was he able to push it faster; also, he never had a problem with it on tile or hardwood). We had another walker that was pretty loose and didn't work for him for awhile. Even though this toy doesn't have a lot of doo-dads and gizmos, he has enjoyed playing with it even before he could walk. He likes the ride-on function, but his legs are kind of long for it and he hasn't quite grasped the concept yet of using his feet to propel him forward. But he loves when we push him! Overall, this is a very useful, durable, and long-lasting toy for a boy who is rough on toys. We definitely have gotten our money's worth!!
Customer Review: Awkward toy Summary: 2 Stars
I got this toy for my daughter's 1st birthday, hoping that it would help her learn to walk and then be a fun ride-on toy for awhile after that. At that point she was too young to ride it but she wasn't really fond of walking it around either. She would kick the wheels and trip while trying to walk, and it seemed to roll too easily so it would just roll away from her faster than she could walk, leaving her flat on her face!
Now that she's old enough to ride it, it's too small! When she sits on it her leg movement is so restricted by the yellow handle in the front and the wheels that stick out in the back that she can't push with her feet very well and she just gets very angry.
So she's enjoyed putting toys in the little compartment in the front and spinning the toys attached in the back, but we didn't find it to work very well for either of its intended uses.
Customer Review: Loved by my walking baby Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for my son for his first birthday and he loves it. My husband was skeptical because our son has been walking since he was ten months and thought he might be beyond it. I can't tell you how much he loves pushing this thing around. My son's favorite thing is to go "owsigh" (outside) we will open the door for him and he will run to his little "car" and drag it out the door. We have to help him keep it on track but it rolls pretty well on the sidewalk. And as a bonus it's light and easy to carry when he is done with it. In the riding mode my son will sit on it and play with the attached toys and he loves opening the hood and finding or hiding items in it. My son is on the short side so his feet just touch the floor and he has learned to push himself backward, I think he will need another half an inch or so before he can go forward. That is just more fun to look forward to.
Customer Review: Two in ONE and he's starting to walk!!! Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased the playskool Step Start Walk n' Ride for our 11 1/2 month old son for Christmas. I Saw the product online, and read that one mother didn't like it because it moved to fast across the floor for her little one.
I would like to say that he got it Christmas morning, and pushed himself on the bike, and then we moved it up to the walk setting to see if he'd try it. . . and he pushed it all the way down the house! I can't believe it! My son has not showed any signs of walking up till this point. I don't think it's too slippery for carpet. And it seemed easy for his little legs to keep up with. It's simple to adjust back and forth from one level to the next, and the "bike" is low enough to the floor for him to get on with ease. We love it. His first steps happened with this toy, and he will be 1 years old tomorrow! I'm so excited. Thanks.
Customer Review: I love Playskool toys and this one especially! Summary: 5 Stars
Where Fisher Price has completely missed the mark in the last 10 years with ugly characters and garish, obnoxiously noisy toys, Playskool has picked up the slack. This car/walker is really cool. It's colorful and offers something for various baby stages. If they're not ready just yet to walk or ride, they can play with the gizmos located front and back. My daughter really enjoys the gadgety things and walking 'by herself.' We have hardwood floors and because of the wheel design - not very sophisticated being all plastic parts - there is enough friction that they don't go so fast as to roll right out from under her. Normally I'm not in favor of the giant plastic accessories that are supposed to help babies progress through their natural baby cycles, but I definitely recommend this one just for the fun value. Oh, and for the aching back that comes with toddling toddlers.
