Toys and Games Reviews of Ouija Board Glow-in-the-Dark

Summary: 1 Stars

I played with a Ouija board once, when I was a young teenager. I've regretted it ever since, for a reason I can't put in this review. I really don't mean to be preachy, but I feel I must warn others so they don't suffer the same way I did.

[...].

Question: "What are Ouija boards? Should a Christian play with Ouija boards?"

Answer: The modern Ouija board was created in the late 1800s as interest in spiritualism grew. A Ouija board is simply a game board that has the alphabet, numerals, and "yes" and "no" printed on its face. Used in conjunction with a pointer, Ouija boards are believed to allow spirits of the dead to communicate with the living. As such, they are often considered to be communication gateways to those who have `passed over.' Of course, this is all based on the supposition that spirits, or ghosts, even exist in the first place and that they can, or want to, communicate with the world of the living.

The Bible has a few things to say about engaging in activities of this nature:

Leviticus 19:31 - "Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God."

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 - "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD."

Isaiah 8:19 - "When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?"

Galatians 5:19-20 "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."

Occultists will insist that the boards work by allowing spirits of the dead to move the pointer in answer to queries. Scientists have yet to prove that the pointer is moved by anything other than the living people touching the pointer. In fact, spirits of the dead seem to get extremely confused when participants are blindfolded and at that point the Ouija board suddenly ceases to work correctly.

"Playing" with a Ouija board is engaging in occultism and is definitely not an option for a Christian. Such activity is clearly forbidden in the Bible. No matter how innocent it may seem, it must be remembered that Ouija boards can be an opening for demons to invade our hearts and minds. All demonic activity is under the control of Satan, whom Peter describes in no uncertain terms: "Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (2 Peter 5:8). The scriptural example for dealing with items that pertain to the occult (books, music, jewelry, occultic games, and other occult objects) is to confess involvement with them as sin and burn the items, safely of course (Acts 19:18-19).

Customer Review: Thought Ouija Was A Joke & Ouija Made Me Think AGAIN!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently purchased this Ouija board after chatting it up with my boyfriend about how scary a Ouija Board would be to use on Holloween. Obviously I was making sarcastic remarks and was not serious about it becauase I thought Ouija was all nothing but a bunch of hog wash.

Well anyway I ordered the dumb thing because we thought it be a fun joke to get it and see that this thing dont work like people believe it to. I thought it was so funny how people called this simple piece of plastic & cardboard "Witchcraft" and "Black" magic, and would say that those who attend church would never bother with it. Needless to say I ordered the thing and it got to my place with the great help of UPS. I got the thing opened and left it in the sunlight atop my window sil for the remainer of the day (alough directions tell you to leave it under a lamp or in direct sunlight for 30 minutes) anyway I was home alone that night and I decided to test it out and I asked "Is anybody there?" and then the pallette moved over and stopped on "Yes". Man I coulda pissed myself. I told the "spirit" Good bye & chucked it in the closet!

The next night I was convinced to get the thing out the closet and have me and my boyfriend try it out. Well folks, at the end of this session I found out that there are 6 spirits in my home and they been there before we had even moved in. They had told us how they were siblings and that the oldest of them all was a 21yr old male. That their parents were alive but was not the cause of their death. I know that the "deceased" are not your best spellers but this particular one had a easier time with yes and no questions. Spelling was hard to catch, like when he had said that my best friend and his girl would break up December 5th, but instead showed us "D" & "5". I asked if he ment Dec 5th & the pallette flew over to yes!

I barely got sleep last night, and I cant help but to keep thinking how spooky the ordeal was, I thought this was a joke but beware its not! Dont ask the things you may not be able to accept once you learn the truth. ALWAYS go over the questions you tend to ask the Ouija, and make sure the people involved agree. You dont want anyone uncomfortable and kill the mood. And remember sometimes its easier to form your questions in yes and no answer format instead of relying on spelling. Grammer can tend to suck, so I suggest something like what we did, we asked "are you male or female? Answer yes for male or no for female". He answered yes. If you are curious, and not afraid and want to experience what it is to contact the deseaced then I highly reccomend it! Just say a prayer before hand & always say good-bye. Sometimes they will say it back, other times they may not. But that dont matter, Just make sure that YOU always do when you are ready to call it a night. Its just simple manners.

*Have fun, Be safe, and have faith*

Customer Review: A review from someone who actually bought this board
Summary: 5 Stars

I am probably one of the few here who actually has this board and didn't just post to prattle off religious anti-occult diatribe. Shame on you all who did so, this is not the forum to preach and shove your beliefs down peoples throats, there are plenty of other places on the net to do so; and shame on Amazon for not removing such vitriol that doesn't actually review the product!

My main complaint is that its not super durable as a lot of boards out there, because it's basically just cardboard. The glow-in-the-dark aspect of it is very cool, however it only lasts about 30 minutes, so you have a limited window of time. I suggest using this by blacklight or better yet candlelight; you might also want to try keeping your sessions very short if you plan to play with it in complete darkness. The only other gripe I have is that the board is much smaller than they used to be.

I like that it has the classic typeface and design with an added glow-in-the-dark twist, albeit that it doesn't keep its luminescence too long. The price is right for just a cardboard version of a Ouija, since antique and wooden boards can get into a higher range. If you are a collector of talking boards, you might as well add this to your collection at only 20 bucks. Even though it's not as durable as a wooden board, it should be fine so long as you're not using it to rest drinks on. It does have a seal around the corners so its not going to come apart on you with normal or decorative use. The planchette sliders are smooth plastic and not rubber, though not as good as many say felt is for the feet of the planchette, it doesn't hinder movement that I have noticed.

I give it a 5 star rating. For the price, it serves its purpose, and has the classic look of a ouija without the expense of the wood-burned or antique boards. I also chose the 5 star rating because I really like the glow-in-the-dark. When I'm not using it I have it out as a decoration; when kept near a blacklight it will glow without the need to "charge" it and it goes very nicely with neon theme I have in my room. (No, I've never been possessed by demons because of keeping it set up or using it, even alone, and I haven't had any more so-called "evil spirits" than the ones who usually hang out in my neighborhood!) Overall, I like it for what it is: a cheap board that's true to the classic ouija style, for people who are just curious about the talking board that gets such a bad rap or those who don't want to shell out the dough for a board made of better material. If you are a hard-core practitioner of divination or other aspects of the occult, or planning to become one, you might want to splurge a little and buy a nicer quality board; though in my opinion the only difference is the quality and appearance, not that it will "work" better.

Customer Review: Glow-in-dark surface adds spooky dimension to Ouija
Summary: 3 Stars

The word "Ouija" is made up of two words - "Oui", the French word for Yes, and "Ja", the German word for Yes. So, you could really call the thing the "yes-yes" board. Usually, though, the board says neither Yes nor No but sits there and obstinately refuses to budge at all.

As a "psychic" tool, the Ouija is on the klunky side. Far better response can be gotten from a pendulum or even a lone planchette rigged out for automatic writing. The glow model is even more klunky than its predecessors because of the rough paper surface -- but the glow in the dark aspect adds a terrific "spooky" quality to the board, making it a good choice for a Hallowe'en party.

What is it about the Ouija board which makes so many people fear it? The board responds to the user's own ideomotor responses which, if properly understood, should be enlightening rather than frightening, but for many people that isn't the case. Why?

The eerie illustrations on the classic Ouija board re-inforce the idea that the board is used to contact spirits. The very eerieness of the drawings seem to suggest that using the board is a potentially frightening experience. It is simply a matter of the messages conforming to the expectations of the user.

Ouija boards respond to tiny, barely perceivable movements of our hands and arms. When information comes from our subconscious mind via this kind of automatic response it can seem strangely disembodied. Unaware of our deeper selves, it can seem to us that messages are forming on their own with little or no help from us . . . but that isn't what is happening. It is a part of us, a part of which we are normally unconscious, coming through into consiousness in a very real way. Because we have made the effort to hide these portions of ourselves from ourselves, having them suddenly come through CAN be a very frightening experience -- but not an evil one.

Finally, working with a Ouija seldom occurs in solitude. When I place my fingers with yours upon the Ouija planchette, what results is either a power struggle on an unconscious level as we both jocky for position without either of us being aware of it, or a varient of "mob" mentality where together we have less sense than we do seperately. In either case, the resultant "communication" is from the stronger, less socially acceptable parts of our unconscious . . our worst selves coming through.

I agree, the Ouija isn't for kids or even for those adults who are less self-aware. It isn't really a very good personal development tool either. As I said, the pendulum or even non-paranormal methods such as keeping a journal, are preferable. I'm not certain that, in our modern world, Ouija even has a place -- save as a nostalgic curio or seasonal game.

Customer Review: NOT A GAME, 4 Stars

I first played with a ouija (wee-gee) board when i was 12 at a school holiday, my friend was talking too me about them, so i was desperate too have a go, just to see if it worked. He said ok, and got out a pen and paper and we drew one on, it was a crappy ouija board as you would of expected, but we didn't think it mattered, anyway we laid the peice of paper down on a shelf and got out a bottle cap, too use as a planchette, I had a go, and i didnt work :(, my friend had a go and it didnt work, and then this boy came a long, who didnt have a clue what we were doing so he sed "whats this, can i have a go" so we just told him what too do, and he did it.
"I need a willing spirit, is anyone there" he said, and eventually within 10 minutes the planchette (bottle cap) slowly started too move towards yes!!!!!.

"what is your name" He then asked, and the planchette spelt:
T.E.D, ted?
he then said:
"prove your presance by knocking over something"
we placed a pringles pot in the middle of the floor and nothing happened. We looked away, then looked back, the pringles were knocked over, and they did not make any noise when they landed :).

But not all of this was fun and games because the guy who was doing the ouija board went down ill, he was shivering all over and kept having visions of this man with frizzy brown hair knocking over the pringles pot, this lasted all night and then in the morning he was fine.

And that is just one of the experiances I have had but anyway if you are thinking about using a ouija board you MUST follow these rules, or expect the worst!

1. treat it seriously and respect who ever you are talking too.

2. NEVER! cuss the ouija board

3. Never burn it!!!!, always place it in the bin and let it go away, if you burn it you will be haunted.

4. If you are shaking then stop immediatly

5. If you are worried then you should stop

6. DON'T BE SCARED

7. BEWARE of evil spirits.

8. Make sure you know who your talking too.

they are the guidlines you must follow. anyway let me tell you about my ratings.
