Toys and Games Reviews of Nerf N-Strike Maverick - Colors May Vary

Customer Review: The best Nerf blaster money can buy.
Summary: 5 Stars

For Christmas, 2004, I recived the Nerf Nitefinder gun, which started my Nerf gun craze. Then, in June 2005, I bought the Maverick. Then, just the next day, I bought the N Strike blaster system. 5 guns.

The Maverick is still my favorite.

This thing is wicked cool. The rotating 6 dart barrel is the best thing ever. Plus, it has a slider like a real gun which rocks, and it can clip onto the N Strike system in place of the Scout blaster.

For only 10 bucks, you get a gun that has
a) Great accuracy. I score the highest on the N Strike DVD when I use this gun.
b)Great range for a sidearm or handgun or w/e. It goes at least 30 feet and my all time record is 46 feet.(it was a windy day though, lol)
c)Good power. This thing can really pack a good punch, especially from close up.
d)It looks really cool. Chunky is a good word. It looks alot like Hellboy's gun actually...

There are only one thing I don't like about this gun: the color scheme. I've looked around and can't seem to find it in colors other than blue and yellow. It would be kickass to have a Maverick that was black and silver or sumthing.

I'm serious, this really is the best Nerf gun you can get.
So get it!

Customer Review: MY NAME IS SEAN AND THIS IS MY REVIEW
Summary: 3 Stars

This "gun" is probably the best of all the Nerf "guns."

PROS
EASY TO LOAD
RELOADING IS QUICK
*KINDA HURTS IF YOU GET SHOT IN THE FACE FROM AN INCH AWAY
DOESN'T BREAK UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY TRY TO
FROM WHAT I HEAR IT IS "RELIABLE" IN NERF GUN WARS... whatever that means...

CONS
*KINDA HURTS WHEN YOU GET SHOT IN THE FACE FROM AN INCH AWAY.

If you want to take this "gun fighting" thing to the next level I suggest you buy an air soft gun instead. But I wouldn't recommend getting one unless your:
12 years of age
Out of the cry baby stage because air soft guns hurt
have friends that are intrested in perhaps joining an air soft team so you can fight each other
If your parents would actually let you
Wear a safety mask whenever you intend to shoot an air soft gun. (remember they are dangerous.)
If you don't wear a mask then you have pretty HIGH chances of getting one or both of your eyes taken out. (two eyes if it is an automatic airsoft gun your dealing with ;)

BE SAFE AND DON'T TAKE THIS NERF GUN THING TOO SERIOUSLY.
THE LAST THING YOU NEED IS TO BE A NERD HAVE NO FRIENDS AND YOUR ALONE.

Customer Review: The Nerf Of Me
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this "gun" on the recommendation of one of my high school tutoring students. He likes the Nerf Maverick and says that some of his teachers own them for shootouts in school. My purchase was made to dissuade those rascally squirrls who insist on eating from our backyard tray feeder.

Pulling back the spring loaded slide requires more than a little effort, making it quite a challenge for any five or six-year-old. The six included darts load into the rotating chamber, but only one shot can be taken per pullback.

Our birdfeeder is 26 feet from the deck, a distance I assumed would be within the range of this benign weapon. The darts reach the squirrels in the feeder (weakly) if I aim above their heads and adjust for wind conditions, temperature, and phases of the moon. I've only hit one squirrel and that was on the bounce as he was bounding away from the feeder.

I can only imagine that this toy would be lots of fun for a kid or a grown up kid as long as he or she has the strength to pull back the spring loader. I may be buying some of the whistling darts because I've read that in addition to making a cool, intimidating noise, they travel further

Customer Review: Modding community favorite
Summary: 5 Stars

What can be said about what is likely the single most popular Nerf gun.. I'm sorry 'blaster' on the market?

Well, I'm 24 and somewhat obsessed with Nerf guns, and the Maverick easily makes it in to my top 3 favorite guns, and is good competition for #1. It's got fair accuracy, good range (one of the best ranged for a Nerf handgun I've seen), and with the fact that it's a revolver, you can fire six shots before you have to reload.

But, you already know all of that, I'm sure.
The Maverick is also lends itself well to modding. The flow restrictors are easy to remove, which increases it's range and power. A quick mod allows the barrel to drop further out for quicker loading. And there are some impressive mods for it out there.

On the subject of modding, I did find that painting it can mess with the rotation action a little. I'll be working on my second here pretty soon and see if I can't avoid that.

Do note of course that Nerf guns are built how they are for safety reasons, and modding them, especially in removing some of these safety features can be dangerous (according to Hasbro), although modding can make the gun more likely to break.

Customer Review: NOT BLUE!!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

Good toy, works fine. No complaints about that, but the gun is NOT BLUE as depicted in the photo. I came shopping on amazon looking for a 'big blue gun' as my 3 year old requested for his 4th birthday and I knew his cousin had this one . . . in BLUE, so I figured this was probably "the one" he was imagining in his head (to a 3 year old, this is huge enough). I had seen on other sites that it was depicted in orange and assumed (incorrectly i now see) that the one amazon had must be a blue one - thinking maybe they still had stock of the blue one where other stores had sold out and switched to orange? Guess not - it's just an old pic. The gun arrived just a couple days before my son's birthday and I actually didn't open the amazon box till the night before to wrap his gifts (a taped amazon box is an easy hiding place for b-day gifts) so I was stuck wrapping this one or not have a 'blue gun' to give him. Son was happy with gun (he said 'WOW, a gun!'), but I didn't get that 'COOOOOL, DAD!!!! A BIG! BLUE! GUN!!!!!!' with the excitement of recognizing it was 'the one' he was wanting that I was going for. Bummer. Thought everyone should know in case color was a factor in getting this gun!
