Toys and Games Reviews of Nerf N-Strike Longshot CS-6Customer Review: Looks good but isn't that great. Summary: 2 Stars
Compared to other Nerf 'blasters' this gun falls short. The clip system is good enough in that you won't have to load the next six shots manually.
Unfortunately this gun (mine - it's possible it's a fluke) is less accurate and less powerful than any other nerf guns I own (scout, maverick, nightfinder, rapidfire-20). Also, this gun (either part) can't shoot any other type of ammo beside `streamline' darts (which can be used in other guns). The scope is useless, as the darts don't even hit within it's view. The detached single-shot blaster has more accuracy than the larger blaster, but is single fire and won't use other ammo, so it doesn't add much versatility unless someone is shooting your darts back at you.
If you want a toy sniper rifle, I would recommend an off-brand that uses spinning aerodynamic rubber rings. Although these are also incompatible, and must be reloaded every time you fire, the one I bought (called a Tornado I think) was very accurate for and had a long range without wind.
For number of shots the Longshot offers, you'd be better off with a Maverick - which easier to reload than putting darts in a clip.
Maybe someday Nerf will make a sniper rifle that actually provides the user with range and accuracy. Regardless, this gun looks awesome, and I'll probably use the base rifle for the convenience of the second clip, before I switch to a Maverick or a Scout as a backup.
Customer Review: Freakin' awesome. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Longshot for use in a game called Humans vs. Zombies and although we haven't started playing yet, I HAVE been playing with the gun. It doesn't jam as much as other people might say it does (just make sure to load everything properly and with strength, if you don't load everything all the way it won't work right), and it's really fun. The little pistol thing on the front is pretty useless as far as nerf guns go, but as an accuracy increaser it's pretty good. The Longshot has a longer range than most other nerf guns I know, however it's not really accurate, and I would rather have one 12 round magazine than two 6's.
It's a fun gun, however. The scope is also useless and it's easier to aim using the scope rail and the front "sight". It also appears as if a strap can be mounted to the gun.
The darts are a special kind and are more expensive than the normal nerf dart, which won't work in the longshot.
Overall, though, It's a lot of fun. I've ran and then dove into the grass with the gun and it didn't get damaged.
Another upside to it is that it's easy to modify -- There's no glue or anything in the gun, just screws. To upgrade the strength all you need to do is remove the air limiter and put a new/another spring in there. Springs from AR-15 assault rifles work, or if I am not mistaken, the spring from a toilet paper roll holder might work too, in tandem with the normal spring.
Customer Review: Longshot Review Summary: 5 Stars
Alright, let me start off by saying this. The Longshot is a great gun! And I am 13 but still. Here are some pros and cons of this gun and the pros are much better than the cons.
Pros
Awesome fire power
Good Range
Good accuracy
Extra clip storage
Fast reloading
Bolt Action
I can fire about 14 darts in about 12 seconds while reloading a clip
Cons
Takes time to put darts in clips
Sometimes jams
Scope doesn't work
Attachment pistol doesn't shoot well
Too big if you add the extra pistol
Tips-
There's a little hole in the bottom of each darts. If you put those facing downward and to darts towards the back of the clips and the blaster will fire extremely accurate.
Another thing is that you can put 7 darts in each clip at one time instead of the Nerf recommended 6.
AND MAKE SURE that you don't connect the bolt to itself if it's not in the action. I did this and I ruined the gun.
Also do NOT store your darts in the clips keep them in a separate container of some sort. If you store them in the clips u will smash the darts and flatten them out and they won't shoot again.
And one more thing! BUY EXTRA DARTS!
I hope my review helps you make a great purchase.
Customer Review: Incredibly fun blaster! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't have many nerf wars, but I do have a few every year (mainly with my brother-in-laws after holidy meals...). Getting into modding nerf blasters has made these handful of annual events even more enjoyable (at least for me, as the other guys have yet to learn how to crack a nerf blaster open. Except after this past thanksgiving, the damage that they recieved may have given them an incentive to mod themselves... we shall see)! I have found that Night Finders are fantastically easy to mod and can definately lay down the hurt when done properly. The one-shot-at-a-time gets old, however, so I searched for other blasters to modify. The Alpha Trooper is one of my all time favorite slam-firing blasters, but modding only yields so-so results due to the reverse-plunger system. Still good, but not modified Night Finder good. The Longshot utilizes a plunger system similar to that of the Night Finder, and therefore can yield incredible ranges and projectile speeds when modified (coupled with the 6, 12, 18, or 35 dart capacity offered by any of the clips)! All-in-all, not bad. Especially when you find a pallet of Longshots on a holiday sale for $15 a piece! Needless to say I did pick up a 'few' of them and they may be available for sale on ebay, or craigslist. I don't know, we'll see.
Customer Review: Longshot is a Sniper Rifle right? Summary: 3 Stars
The Longshot is an interesting Nerf Gun. It looks and sounds like a sniper rifle, but it doesn't have that much more range than the Recon. The firing mechanism is different and supposedly easier to modify, although I haven't tried it yet.
The pistol/barrel extension attachment is almost completely useless. Mine doesn't even sit right; so if you look down the barrel it looks crooked.
The flip out bi-pod is a bit rough, but a cool feature none-the-less. The scope is kind of disappointing. Obviously just a plastic tube with a dot on it; you can't adjust it, so hope it is on the mark or it will be off permanently.
The extendable stock seems like an interesting addition, but just makes the gun unnecessarily beefy. The clip holder in it is a good addition and gives you a nice place to store a spare clip (although the Longstrike can store 2 clips).
The clip release button is one sided unlike almost every other clip system gun, so you better hope you are right handed.
If you are a collector, check it out, otherwise you might want to pass on this one.
