Toys and Games Reviews of Nerf N-Strike Longshot CS-6Customer Review: A wonderful gift! Summary: 5 Stars
This Christmas me and my two younger brothers were presented with quite a treat! each of us received a CS-6 Longshot. The first thing you realize when you get this gun is it is not your old "open up and start shooting" nerf gun, this gun requires some assembly, nothing that really requires a manual but assembly none the less. Even shooting darts requires that you first open the clip, put in a 6 dart magazine and then close the loading chamber, which I find utterly amazing. the little features in this gun astound me, when you pull back on the loading/spring mechanism you're able to look into the loading chamber just like a real gun. This serves a practical purpose however as you'll need to get to this area when it jams... which it will if you're foolish enough to try to use a different type of ammo then what Nerf recommends.
the gun is actually two separate nerf guns in one, there is the large gun itself which can grow several inches if you want by moving the shoulder butt back using an orange switch and a smaller pump action gun on the front which needs to be manually loaded with a new dart each shot. when the two guns are attached together this rifle is gratifyingly long. and when you don't want something that is as long as some reasonably sized dogs you can always separate the guns and shorten the stock of the gun for a much more manageable toy.
It also is really neat having a full second clip of ammunition in the stock of the gun and the Bi-pod is really fun to use, it also makes the gun look very sniper-like
out of the 3 guns we received ALL work amazingly well, we can shoot the guns well over 30 feet and the entertainment value has been great, there's nothing like randomly launching a barrage of nerf bullets at one of your siblings *memories*
there has been one troubling side effect of how powerful these guns are, I've been noticing that the gun is actually starting to tear up small pieces of the nerf dart with continued use, hopefully this will only continue to a point but regardless I'd recommend picking up one of the nerf value dart packs from Hasbro.
this is the most powerful nerf gun I've ever owned or seen, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good solid nerf toy.

Customer Review: Cool but not a sniper rifle Summary: 4 Stars
The Longshot has a reputation for being one of the best Nerf guns there is. This may be true from a modding standpoint, but to be honest it is over-hyped. Granted, it is a good gun. The scope is adorable, if useless (because darts fall so rapidly, you have to aim far enough above your target that you won't be able to see them through the scope at all), but if you really need a scope to hit something with a Nerf gun you are doing it wrong. The stock is nice and adjustable, but is not removable like the Recon/Raider/Spectre stocks. It stores a clip, and because of the design I think it may be able to store any of the clips. The range of the gun is equal to other clip-system guns, and not as good as revolvers like the Maverick (so it is a sniper rifle only in appearance). I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is actually really accurate, possibly the most accurate Nerf gun (so maybe it would be a viable sniper if modded). It is bolt-action manual so don't expect a high rate of fire at all. The front is a detachable barrel extension with an extra one-shot, pump-action gun, presumably to cover you while you reload the main unit. As with all barrel extensions it actually hurts the range a bit.
While I like this gun, it has some flaws in terms of construction. The bipod is rather hard to fold out, and when deployed you can't put on/take off the barrel attachment. The barrel attachment itself is a problem. Oddly, you have install the trigger by shoving it into a slot. I think this was supposed to be an easy step, but it took me about half an hour to do--it kept falling off or not fitting. The stock is also positioned so that if you store the gun upright with the bipod out, it will put all the weight on any clip you put in the stock, which is at least awkward.
Overall, it is a cool gun, but if you are buying your first clip-system gun you should get the Recon or Alpha-Trooper instead.
Customer Review: good gun, but too many cons Summary: 4 Stars
I am nearly 14 years old and i've had my share of nerf wars, and trust me, only use the longshot when you have somewhere to duck behind to reload, or have a full clip. The best case scenario for reloading is having a full clip ready to pop in. But when you're not that lucky, you have to load up the clip (which takes awhile,) and then pop it in. That is where it is worse than the firefly, and maverick. It does shoot streamline darts pretty far (over the advertised 30 ft.) but those are the only darts it uses, and the streamline hurt even more in the maverick. The gun also jams a lot. You'll be shooting, you'll reload, push up the bolt, but then it won't click in. Eventually you realize there is already a dart stuck in there somehow. Luckily, NERF addressed this problem and put in a jam door under the tactical rail(handle). But the darts get pretty beat, and it's hard to find refills for the list price. The "scope' is pretty pathetic, so you should just take that off because if somthings lined up perfectly in it, the dart's bound to go a foot below. The pistol extension is good for sniping, as is the fold-down bipod, but gets in the way otherwise. It is cool to shoot two darts at once, though.
Now, finally the good things. This gun is probably the easiest to keep firing within a clip of the ones i've used (i have yet to try the recon cs-6), and is the most accurate. Or, you could hold it like a shotgun and just fire away. And because it is very big (too big with the extension) it is good to shield yourself with. And if you don't have a clip ready, you can slide the dart down the barrel and then cock the gun, although it isn't recommended. So this is a great gun, but i'm not sure if i'd suggest this over the firefly.
Customer Review: I am not too old Summary: 5 Stars
OK, I am probably too old to be writing this review, but this gun is very good.
The product description says that it shoot foam arrows(darts) up to 35 ft, but i took an average of 5 shots at about a 20degree angle and it was 29, although i did get 33 ft. I am a bit of a nerf fanatic, and this is my second longest range gun (it shoots 5 feet less than the Recon CS-6 Dart Gun), and considering i have about 10 guns, that is pretty good. It does shoot farther with the holes in the darts aimed down in the clip, and with the barrel extension removed (which also decreases accuracy). This gun is better than the new downgraded version(longstrike) in just all about all aspects, except for the fact that the longstrike is lighter, which makes no difference to me.
Of all the Nerf guns, I would recommend either this gun or the Nerf Recon CS-6 Dart Gun, which is about the third of the price and has a little better performance, although the bolt-action adds a realistic feel to the gun. The scope does next to nothing, being it is accurate at ranges up to point blank. it is just for looks, which it is good at. IT is a bit bulky, great for sniping, not so much for charging.
Overall, great gun. The reason this guns price is constantly rising is that it is no longer available and has stopped being made, Nerf/Hasbro has replaced it with the longstrike.
Another thing i would like to comment on is the amazon shipping speed. Every time i order from Amazon, the order comes the day of or before they say it should. I ordered it Tuesday, and they said it should arrive between the next Monday and the next Friday.
I got the gun two days after i ordered it, four days before the estimated arrival.
Customer Review: Longshot Isn't Too Bad! But Not Quite Perfect... Summary: 4 Stars
But what gun is perfect? I'm a college student who is very much new to Humans vs. Zombies and Zombie Hunt events, though I've owned Nerf guns for a while now. The new Longshot CS-6 is pretty fun to haul around (everyone gets intimidated by its grand size), however when it fires it begins to fall short of (at least) my expectations. It does not shoot much farther than most of the other Nerf models I have (Recon, Alpha Trooper...), which made me wonder why it was any better than what I already had in my arsenal.
It's fun to lock and load, sure, but when you pull the trigger and the spring inside releases tension, you can just feel the thing reverberate in a kind of goofy manner, as if it had more potential. Folks, it does. At first, right out of the box, it's not too hot; I mean, it's decent, yes, and the sniper look is very much awesome. However, if you have those power tools lying around, and you find a good tutorial on Longshot mods, then I can assure you the gun will (if all executed correctly) shoot further; some people are crazy and mod them to shoot 100ft+ (check eBay, some mod and sell them there), but I would recommend not doing that, because if there is a closer encounter, that would sting like a bee. Or maybe a jellyfish. I dunno.
In any case, four stars because it's a decent gun as is, but is completely open to modification. This gun has good potential, though it's not the easiest thing to crack open and fix up (don't strip the screws!). I believe it is aimed more toward the older audience of whoever buys Nerf guns, but if your young'un wants to give it a shot, it's a new incentive for getting some muscle mass. Happy Nerf shopping!
