Toys and Games Reviews of Nerf N-Strike Longshot CS-6

Customer Review: A lot of fun for kids and adults alike!
Summary: 4 Stars

What can I say? This gun represents Nerf's new N-Force product line as their flagship weapon. And the way this gun performs is great for the young, and the young at heart alike. The gun is split into two main sections, the long rifle part, and the shorter front attachment that can also function as a single-shot blaster. As far as the main gun is concerned, it functions much like an old bolt action rifle, with a six-dart magazine (which is quite cool, and it comes with two), and a bright orange handle on each side (works for lefties, as well) that loads the dart from the magazine and readies the weapon for firing. The one disadvantage of this is that it's awkward to aim the weapon and get your next shot ready, since the handle is so far back. This makes your firing speed a bit slower than one might hope, as those less strong (like kids) will have trouble priming it without bringing the gun down from firing position. It also has a "tactical rail mount" on top, (and a little optical sight made to look like a scope) which is just a bit wider than a picatinny rail (for those of you into guns), and with a bit of work (filing, cutting), can fit attachments (sights, etc.) designed for airsoft or other weapons. The back stock can be compressed to make the gun slightly smaller, and a collapsible bipod is permanently attached to the front. the handle on the gun is small (good for kids and those with small hands) but will also fit those with medium/larger sized hands (although not entirely comfortably)

Attaching the secondary blaster to the front of the gun doesn't improve range or accuracy, and makes the gun fairly long and unwieldy. (That "over 3-ft long!" selling point actually becomes a negative here.) If the secondary attachment is put on slightly at an angle or not locked in all the way (which is VERY easy to do) the darts can rub against the side of the barrel on the attachment and actually slow down, only firing about half as far as normal. It also makes the gun much heavier and front-heavy, and kids might have trouble using the gun this way (or at least, they'll smack it into every wall when they turn around) I usually leave this off, and just have it as a secondary single-shot gun.

Overall, firing distances were comparable to other nerf guns, with ranges (5 ft. above floor, straight ahead, no wind) ranging from 25-35 feet. With a bit of practice, and arcing your shot (firing slightly upwards), you can be at least somewhat accurate at ranges beyond that. And if you miss, that's what your other 11 darts are for, right?

Remember, be sure to always teach your kids proper gun safety, even with nerf guns! At close range, you could seriously injure someone if a dart hits their eye. My "testing group" (my little nephews and nieces) had a blast with this gun, along with my other nerf weaponry, and I definitely recommend this gun to anyone looking to step up their nerf weapons, and give their kids (or themselves!) and advantage over the neighbors/roomates!

Customer Review: What to expect
Summary: 4 Stars

I have to say, this can be the most versatile Nerf gun in the right hands.
The pistol attachment... Forget about. Your never gunna use it. BUT it does allow you to variy the Longshot. The pistol part is more like extra barrel length, and with it on it makes the gun look like a sniper, and makes it more acurate. Without the pistol, it looks way more cool, and resembles a assault rifle. It's also lighter and easier to run with. The down side is you can tell the diffrence in acuracy. It feels more like the N-Strike Firefly REV-8 when in assualt mode, and goes a little farther than it too, but can't be accurate and Rapid Fire at the same time, and theres a small chance of Jamming it to. Also Fireflys Are cheaper.

Peaple also say it Jams. I found that if you only put 5-4 darts in it, it jams half as often, if it Jams at all.

It also comes with a scope to mount on the bullpup, but it goes on ALMOST any Nerf gun with a bullpup/accsesery rail. But it works best on the Longshot. It's helpful if you use it in Sniper mode, and for the little orange bit at the end of the pistol atachment to aim.

Overall, if Nerf took out some saftey precautions so the darts flew farther, faster, and more strait, that would be nice.

Overall, this gun excels in mid range and long range warfare, but not close quarter combat. Get the Maverick for close quarters and use it as a side arm. Just put some string through the hole at the back of the cocking mechanism. Also, buy Nerf Sonic Micro Darts for it so in a pinch, it can be used in mid-range combat.

ALso, the Longshot ONLY FIRES 1 TYPE OF BULLET!!! I would advise you buy/order Nerf Streamline Darts for the Longshot with it, because each bullet is extremly precious.

Finaly, you should know a 11 year old wrote this review, and has owned the gun for a year. This did not come from observing my kid. I am the kid. I take cover, reload, and shoot at other's who do the very same thing. I do not watch and write reviews, I shoot and know which gun gets head shots and which one unloads it's clip like lightning. I yell "Get down, RPG!!!" when someone fires a Titan. Others say look, they just ducked and that rockect luancher just barley missed. This is a soldier from the the battlefeild telling you what happened, not a reporter with some footage of it. Know this when you think about this review. It's the 11 year old, not the parent, who reviewed this gun.

Customer Review: Not Quite a Sniper Rifle, But a Good Rifle Nonetheless!
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had my Nerf Maverick for a while now. It's fun for terrorizing my floormates (I'm a college student living in a dorm hall), but one needs variety sometimes! Enter the Longshot. Here's a brief outline of the parts, their pros, and their cons.

The Scope:
Let's get this out of the way first - the scope is an utterly useless hunk of plastic. Gravity always wins with dart guns; the darts will eventually start to fall. Having the scope on TOP of the gun, therefore, does NOTHING for accuracy and can actually get in your way. However, it does attach easily to the gun and adds somewhat to the visual intimidation factor. I like to attach it to my Maverick for giggles sometimes.

The Front Attachment:
Adding over a foot to the gun's length, the front attachment is perfect for intimidating your targets even more. However, it can actually TAKE from accuracy or distance. As the dart flies through the extra foot of tubing, it sometimes catches on an edge and flies out to the left or right, usually falling at a faster rate than normal. The added gun also has its ups and downs. It only holds one dart, and that dart must be loaded tightly to fire well. There's a small inset on top of the front attachment for holding another dart, but it often falls out. However, the front attachment can be easily removed and re-attached, allowing you to surprise your targets by suddenly producing two guns from your one.

There was on particular assembly problem that I had. The trigger mechanism comes separate from the front attachment. You are supposed to "snap" it into place, but what you might think is the "snap" isn't. You have to force the handle even further back (and I'm not exaggerating when I say force; I thought I was going to break it). But once the handle is in, it stays in.

The Gun Itself:
The saving grace of the Longshot is its most basic part. The two, quick loading clips can easily fit 7 darts each (as opposed to the 6 advertised on the box). The bolt action works wonderfully, its mechanical clicks evoking the air of a real rifle. The gun DOES jam every now and again, but the folks at Hasbro included a jam shutter that you can open and reach into to fix things yourself. I have yet to find a real use for the bipod, but it doesn't get in the way when it's up. The adjustable shoulder stock has a disappointing two settings, but it does what it is meant to do.

With all the attachments, the gun is certainly intimidating. What it gains in intimidation, though, it loses in use. It can be a bit front heavy (especially for kids), and it loses both accuracy and distance. The scope is just for show. Without the attachments, the gun has great accuracy and aim, rarely jams, and generally just works well.

I'm happy with it.

Customer Review: Must Have.

I bought two Longshots at wal-mart for $15 each on black friday, and let me tell you. They are amazing. The scope is useless, it just looks cool. The pistol on the end is useless as well, having it on just decreases the range of the longshot. The pistols themselves suck also, the farthest mine has ever gone was 15 feet. It usually goes about 2 feet.

The Longshot is great, mine goes about 35 feet. It's pretty light, and the stock is really comfortable. I like how the stock holds a clip. The bipod is kinda cool.

If you are going to mod it, there are two pathways you can take, or do a combination. The two pathways are Assault rifle, and Sniper rifle. Modding it is essential to get full potential. I rated it's educational value as 4 stars because you can learn a lot from modding it.

If you want it as an assault rifle, your best bet is to put a more powerful spring where the original one is, put a more powerful catch spring in (this keeps it from misfiring), putting a piece of PVC pipe in the stock to keep it from collapsing on your hand, taking out the air restrictor, taking out the locks, and doing the front gun integration. The front gun integration is where you saw out the bipod, and put the front gun there and linking the triggers. Check out nerfhaven.com or Coop772's youtube channel for instructions.

If you want a sniper, you should again do the same spring upgrades and take out the air restrictor and locks. Instead of doing the FG integration, you should keep the bipod. There are a couple little nubs that keep the bipod from going any farther than it can go, so saw those out and your bipod will be more practical. You should also take the barrel and the piece that locks the FG into the Longshot out of the FG, and glue them together for a better sniper look. Again, check nerfhaven and youtube.

Overall this is a great nerf gun. I would recommend it to any nerfer.

Pros:
Large range
feel of a sniper
stock holds a clip
bipod
pretty light, much lighter than the Stampede

Cons:
Front gun is crappy, it just slows down the dart
the scope sucks
if you upgrade the spring power, when your cocking the stock might collapse on your hand, and that really hurts.
TOO EXPENSIVE!!!

If you can find a deal where it's less than $50, buy it. Or if you have nothing to do with your money.

I recommend it to all nerfers from age 8 to 48. yes, I know a 48 year old nerfer.

Customer Review: Awesome! 50+ Feet!
Summary: 5 Stars

This gun is amazing! Some people say, "It only shoots ten feet!" or "The scope sucks!". Don't listen. The secret where you put the hole on the bottom works. Now I'm gonna run you through everything you need to know about this gun.

Accuracy:
When loading darts into the clip, put them with the hole on the bottom. When you shoot, if you are holding the gun straight, the dart will soar straight as can be. If you need to nail a target from far away, you want to keep one of your clips with just 1 dart. This one dart should have the hole perfectly on the bottom. If you have all 6 darts in the clip it is harder to make sure that they all have the hole right on the bottom, so I carry one clip with all 6 darts, and one clip with one dart.
The other really important thing about accuracy is practice. Practice long distance shots holding the gun different ways and looking through the sight different ways. You will stumble along one way that fits you best and helps you to have accurate shots. This is what I did and I found a way that nails the target every time (and from 50 feet away). Remember, practice practice practice!

Distance:
Who doesn't want a gun that can nail targets from long enough away to be out of their firing range? Well this gun has it. Most people modify their gun to shoot 100 feet or so. You can, but it is RISKY! I'm not going to put my $30 gun at stake. Anyway, this gun can shoot from 50+ feet away. I'll tell you how.
Now that you have accuracy down, you just need to get your darts to go the distance. First find your target in your scope. Then slowly tilt your gun up. Your target probably won't be visible in your scope, but just trust me. Once you've aimed high above your target, let her rip. Every time I did this I aimed a little higher than the previous time. I got my darts to fly 50 feet! They would've gone a few more feet if they hadn't hit the wall. I shot from the middle of my room, across the hallway, and all the way to the end of the other room at the end of the hallway. This was 50 feet. That should be far enough away to snipe someone, especially if your hiding behind something or you're in a darkened room. Remember, I was firing across a flat area. If you were on a roof, or looking out a 2nd story window, you could shoot even further!

I hope this review was very helpful, and I hope you highly consider this gun. It is a blast.
