Toys and Games Reviews of Nerf N-Strike Firefly REV-8Customer Review: Firefly hits it's mark...barely Summary: 4 Stars
Ok a few clarifications for people:
1. There are really 2 schools for Nerf/foam guns, one is the hardcore "I want my gun to shoot 30 ft and be able to reliably hit a pop can everytime" and the "I like to shoot my friends from 10 ft away behind the couch when they aren't looking."
This is why the reviews vary wildly on these types of guns. Also, I suspect there is alittle bit of quality control issues, and sometimes you'll find someone got a lemon.
That being said, this is a fun little gun that I purchased to keep the hordes of code toads (aka programmers) from overrunning my cube at work.
It's not the best nerf gun ever, heck the Hasbro Nerf N-Strike Maverick, listed on amazon for 1/3 of the price is probably the best non-modded handgun you can buy atm.
This one lacks power, and it'd be smarter to buy a $5 bottle of glow in the dark paint than attach these stickers (which lose sticky fast and then just jam up the darts in the tubes).
The action is good but not for super fast shooting, I use the sonic or velcro darts mostly (painted for night action) and they work much better.
all in all, its a decent little gun, if you want 20ft+ I'd suggest googling 'nerf mods' and buying a dremel/ton of super glue, because while they could've made this gun alot better, I suppose they could've made it alot worse as well.
My suggestion, buy a Hasbro Nerf N-Strike Maverick, follow some of the easy mods, and have a nice concealable longer shooting gun for alot less money.
Nerf on!
Customer Review: Not the ideal nerf gun for any enthusiest. Summary: 2 Stars
To start, I will announce the Pros and Cons of this product. Pros: This nerf gun is durable, relatively small and is light. It is fun in the dark with its glow-in-the-dark darts and its ability to light up. Cons: This is probably the weakest nerf gun I have ever fired and I have fired a lot of nerf guns. This nerf gun also uses only one kind of dart. The darts it uses are very flimsy and are way too light. They have no weight to guide them and travel about 9 feet. This is not like other guns that you can use other darts with. The gun has a very badly designed piece of plastic that goes right over the chamber that prevents the use of any other kind of dart. Any other dart will jam the gun. Ok, think about this in your head: You go to buy a nerf gun and you see one that looks cool and says it uses batteries. This happens to be that gun. Yes it uses batteries but in probably the most useless way possible. The batteries don't give it more power. They don't allow it to shoot full auto. It wastes batteries because all it uses batteries for is to light up the chamber and make a stupid sound when the gun is fired. If you want to have cool nerf battles with your friends, I know I do, it is worth the extra money to buy the Longshot or the Recon but this gun is a complete waste of money and is a disgrace to the very nature of dart guns. I am very ashamed of you, nerf.
Thank you for reading my review and I hoped it helped you make a decision. I am deeply sorry if I offended anybody.
Customer Review: Great blaster, use different darts Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased the Nerf N-Strike Firefly REV-8 blaster after reading many reviews. I have found that the blaster does not jam as some have claimed. The distance the blaster shoots varies depending on what dart is being used. I have used the glow in the dark darts that come with the blaster and the Nerf Sonic Micro Darts. The sonic darts fly a whole lot straighter and farther. The original darts have some distance issues, the accuracy is slightly affected if the glow in the dark stickers are placed on the original darts. I have only placed one sticker on my original darts as a test and have noticed some performance issues with that one dart. I highly recommend getting more darts, especially if you plan to use eight dart holder on the gun. The holder has a piece of plastic protruding out to hold the darts securely in place, but it does some damage to the darts over time. The good news is that the Nerf N-Strike Firefly REV-8 uses the same darts as the Nerf N-Strike Vulcan EBF-25 Blaster - Yellow and the Nerf N-Strike Maverick Blaster. If you decide to purchase multiple blasters, I'd recommend getting the Nerf Dart Ammo Box - Micro Sonic Darts and at least the Nerf Glow In Dark Darts, 12 pk if you like the glow in the dark option. The flashing light is a little cheesy, but it has the potential to add another dimension to your Nerf wars. If you are looking to mod the Firefly, there are tons of tutorials on YouTube.
Customer Review: An old one and shows it's age but still fun! Summary: 5 Stars
Nerf sometimes recyles old guns by producing them in a new color and this is one of them. My review for this oldie.
1) Power: Springloaded air pushers are typically the weakest, but this one is respectable. I'm always surprised at how far the darts go considering how effortless the pull back is.
2) Multiple shots: When this gun first came out 8 shots was probably a lot, but now you have 10 or 12 shooters with less bulk and 20 shot shooters with about the same bulk. And newer multiple shooters often have quick reload cartridges. This one you have to reload 8 manually.
3) Bulkyness: This is so bulky it feels like a RPG (rocket power grenade) to me. You grip it with the hand on the handgrip and the stock under your armpit and pull the spring back with your other hand. As I said, you can get 10-12 shooters without having to use your armpit.
4) Functionality: Not the greatest in Nerf wars since you have to grip it underarm and expose 1/2 your torso to fire it.
5) Fun factor: Well, it's got the flashing lights!
Summary: An oldie that shows it's age. I look at it as a 2 handed 8 shooter with decent power, so it's got it's pros and cons. If you like the looks of it and you like the lights, why not?
Customer Review: Not an Assault Rifle or Pistol Summary: 4 Stars
As the title says, it isn't! The Firefly should be treated as a sub-machine gun first. The accuracy is a bit random at range, but then again, thats a sub-machine gun. Its not a pistol either even though it's a revolver type. Its a bit disappointing it only holds 8 rounds in the barrel, but thats what the extra storage is for. If you use the open-barrel mod, its less bothersome. However, without mods, its still a good gun. The glow-in-the-dark darts are a troublesome to assemble since the glow-in-the-dark part is a poor adhesive glow paper ( I taped them up to keep the paper on. Also works on sealing the chambers a little more to help the firing power). The top rail is useless with some accessories, but prefect for others, such as the red light/dot and the 8-dart holder. One problem I've encountered is that the flash doesn't always work when you pull the trigger (on fresh batteries) but that isn't a deal breaker for me.
Overall, its a great addition to any nerf arsenal however, I wouldn't recommend it as a first gun or first pick for primary weapons. I'd take a Maverick (which I did) over this one for a fire-fight, but in terms a reliability, and dart capacity, I'd that this one over the Maverick (which I also did).
