Toys and Games Reviews of Namco Original Arcade TV Games Video Game System

Customer Review: Bring the arcade to your home.
Summary: 5 Stars

I got these games about a year ago as an impulse buy. I was walking to the checkout line in some store and I saw it on a shelf. At first I was a little hesitant, I didn't know if I really just wanted to buy a Pacman game with some other crap on the sid. I then realized that it had Galaga and Pole Position and I was bought. Galaga has to be one of the garestest games ever made. Miss Pacmcn and Pole Position are pretty addicting too. Also, they're all the originals. Not some fake copied version that you can get for free online. You could play it for hours. It holds up well too. I hear about all these joysticks breaking after a few months and I'm scratching my haed wondering how they did that. This is probably one of the best video game buys I ever made, including Xbox 360. You will not regret it.

Customer Review: No quarters needed!
Summary: 4 Stars

Being a Ms. Pac Man junkie from way back when, I was excited to finally be able to play a version that was (almost) exactly like the arcade version. The game play speeds up the way it did in the arcade and reaching the junior level and beyond have not been an issue for me the way it seems to have been for numerous other reviewers. I've had no joystick problems. As for the other games on here, The Galaga is just like the arcade. Same goes for Mappy. The Xevious is okay but then I never really played it at the arcade. My only negative comment about this item is that the Pole Position only lets you qualify for and race the first track. Why couldn't we get all the different tracks? That really stinks! Otherwise this is an economical toy that should, barring joystick defects, offer hours of harmless fun.

Customer Review: Disappointing
Summary: 1 Stars

My boyfriend loves Ms Pac Man, so when I saw this I figured it would be the perfect birthday gift. Buying it was a HUGE MISTAKE because the joystick doesn't work - Ms Pac Man would go straight when you tried to get her to turn (or turn if you wanted her to go straight). At first I thought maybe it was a problem with the unit I purchased, so I exchanged it for another one...same problem. The game was not playable, because you couldn't get away from the ghosts.

The problems aren't confined to Ms. Pac Man alone, either. We experienced joystick issues on the other games on this unit.

I finally returned the second unit I purchased.

I wish I had read the reviews before buying it.

Unless you're a glutton for punishment, don't buy this...

Customer Review: Buy it for Xevious
Summary: 4 Stars

Ms Pac-Man was the reason to purchase this unit, however as in most reviews, she is hard to control with the joystick. However, Xevious is exceedingly challenging to those of us not as adept at video games, and here the joystick is flawless. This game is highly addictive and responds to your success by throwing more alien fire at you. As a result of this fast-paced game, the large fire button will have a short life span as the small spring in the inner switch will break with repeated use. Those who are mechanically / electrically inclined can fix this and actually make the game a bit easier to score higher. As with most who discover a game they haven't played, the instructions are pretty bare - trial & error, and the Web!!

Customer Review: Very well done! The stick leaves a lot to be desired, though
Summary: 4 Stars

This unit is actually pretty nice and the games play better than I expected. Galaga, especially, seems to be 100% arcade-perfect and the emulation is excellent. Ms. Pac-Man, however, is not emulated as far as I can tell and does not play quite the same as the original machine. It has a slower overall speed and just doesn't feel like the real machine - it's still very playable, though. My only real complaint is that I hate the feel of the controller and I'd be amazed if the thing lasted more than a few weeks. We'll see.

Oh yeah, to those of you who bemoan the fact that the unit does not save high scores, QVC is selling a deluxe version of this controller which adds Bosconian and DOES save the high scores.
