Toys and Games Reviews of Namco Original Arcade TV Games Video Game System

Customer Review: Overall, FIVE stars
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't express how long I waited to get the original version of Galaga for my home. Short of coughing up over $3,000 for a full size arcade game, I thought it would never happen (even the PC version is some wierd, new 3-d version). But, finally we have this reissue plug and play. It's awesome. The joystick, as others have mentioned, is the hardest part to master. Also, the "fire" button is on the left instead of the right which would only be of benefit to southpaws/lefties, but causes everyone else who mastered the right-sided firing button difficulty in getting used to. But, once you do, it's not bad.

The other games you get are the awesome Ms. Pacman, Pole Position and then a couple of other games I hadn't seen before. Ms. Pacman and Pole Position are great and, honestly, the joystick really comes into its own with Pole Position as it features a twist feature that is great for steering. It's just the shifting from low-to-high gears, again with the button on the left, that takes some getting used to.

All in all, for $20 bucks, this is VERY well worth it. You truly cannot go wrong.

Customer Review: buyer BEWARE! looks good in store...

...but totally sucks at home when you actually take the darn thing out of the box.

Yep, the joystick is ABSOLUTE JUNK, and this is what ruins the whole gaming experience. The graphics and sound effects are very decent, but what's the point if the controls are constantly screwing you up? The joystick is totally sticky, random, imprecise and with a mind all its own. Especially with Ms. Pacman, which was the main attraction for me.

Even worse, there is no comfortable or effective way of using it since the bottom of the joystick is one big clunky square box housing the actual game console...maybe if you nailed the darn thing down to a wooden board with some U-brackets it might work, but holding it in my left palm while moving the joystick and fire button with my right was a biomechanical nightmare.

Also keep in mind that unlike the original Atari consoles that had AC adapters, these clunky all-in-the-lousy-joystick devices are battery operated...better invest in some rechargeable ones!

Customer Review: Ms Pacman is Defective
Summary: 1 Stars

Having bought the Pac Man Jakks TV Game and being a big fan of both Ms Pac Man and Pole Postion I was very excited by this game. Unfortunately this game system is defective. As many many users have already mentioned, Ms Pac Man suffers joystick problems and is basically unplayable. The other games don't seem to have the same probelms with the joystick, so I dont think this is an issue with the joystick itself, it is in the electronics of the game. The second big problem is Pole Position. Once I figured out how to steer, which no instruction mentioned anywhere (twist the stick), I had a lot of fun, until I got good enough to complete a few laps. It seems that if you finish 4 laps of the race the game will end. I gives you extended time, and keeps counting your lap time, but at the same time says game over and ends. This is a big bummer. Ms Pacman and Pole Position are both defective, the two reasons I bought this peice of crap are both defective. What a waste of money!! Time to go back to MAME.

Customer Review: Needs a DURABLE joystick, otherwise a great buy.

This unit was bought for my son as a christmas gift. I plugged it in and saw it was just like the original arcade versions and was hooked.

You know when you're trying to get away from those ghosts in Ms. Pacman/Pacman you can be a bit rough with the joystick...that was never a problem at the arcade...but after a few days of playing on this unit...the joystick broke off...the games can still be played but it's almost impossible to get past the 3 board on Ms. Pacman.

As far as Galaga, instead of using your thumb to fire (which can turn out to be very tiring) I place the unit on the table in front of me and use my other fingers.

I would definately buy other games for my kids, but I'm very disppapointed that this one broke so quickly. Jakkstvgames.com has no support department, I was unable to register my product (kept giving me errors), and there is no "contact" page. I would like a new unit, but don't have a receipt or packaging to return it to the store :-(.

Customer Review: Old-School Arcade right in your hands!
Summary: 4 Stars

I started playing an arcade machine in my locaql movie theater's arcade, It was The Mrs. Pacman/Galaga machine.I really like playing it, I also saw one in my local arcade machine dealer's window, i really wanted one, but they cost around $3,000.I went over to my friends house and saw that he had a spongebob plug n' play Tv game system, then i looked at the box for it, and I sa the Mrs. Pacman TV game system!! I immediatley got some of my money and got my parents to go to Walmart and I picked one up. I love it!!! You can play Till youre eyes give out!!! I don't have to keep on putting 50 cents in!!! I also like some of the other games on it. The best thing about it is that you don't need to buy more games or controllers!!!! All you need is a TV(and maybe a comfy couch).

The only downside is that it erses the High scores when you turn it off.

All in All, i think it's great if you don't have enough to buy a real $3,000 machine, this is the next best thing!!!!!
