Toys and Games Reviews of Namco Original Arcade TV Games Video Game SystemCustomer Review: MS PACMAN LOVERS - MUST READ! Galaga-GOOD/Ms P-BAD! Summary: 3 Stars
For all of you reading reviews that tell you Ms Pacman plays just like the arcade version I must bring you back to reality and question whether those people actually were addicted to the game like I was and still am. This system DOES NOT play like the arcade game Ms Pacman. I am a player who can regularly get to Phase 4 in the arcade version and have not yet been able to accomplish the seemingly impossible task of completing Phase 2 on this one. I have minimal complaints with the joystick. For the most part when a mistake is made it is probably user error. You must sit upright and get a firm grip on the controller and also make the quick joystick movements and not slide it as others have said. However, the problem comes in the actual game play. This system has set up those 4 little ghosts that are chasing you to move unlike the arcade version whatsoever. Patterns that you came accustomed to using in the arcade version are useless in this one. Not only that, but the ghosts move faster on the lower levels than on the arcade version and here seem to have the ability to close in on you quicker and even anticipate where you're going to go next. Also the ghosts allude you MUCH FASTER and MORE SKILLFULLY on this system after you've eaten a power pill than they do in the arcade version. It is very frustrating to play this version and I only hope as time goes on that I will be able to enjoy playing the Ms Pacman portion of this plug and play. Having said all that, yes, the graphics, the sound affects, and everything else are identical to the arcade game which is fantastically cool, but if you're looking for that identical arcade actual game play - you will be greatly disappointed!!! Unfortunately.<br />
Now Galaga on the other hand is perfect and is identical to the arcade version and I love everything about playing it! The other 3 games on this system I must admit I am not too familiar with so I will not offer an opinion. Good luck and happy playing!
Customer Review: Five Stars for the concept only Summary: 5 Stars
Wow, I wish I read the reviews were here before I bought this on Amazon. It's such a pain to send stuff back from mail order companies I guess I will just keep the unit and eat the $20 dollars plus shipping. I too cannot get the joy stick to move up and down in Ms Pac Man as I wish. It does seem to have a mind of it's own as others have said. Major disappointment. The first try in Pole Position the car went off the road and I could not steer it back. I did notice someone in another review mentioned that you need to 'turn the spring handle' or something although I am not sure what they mean. Maybe the stick needs to be twisted back and forth like a steering wheel or something. The Galaga game works great on the unit so I guess it's a keeper in this respect. Well, that's about all I can say right now as I have only used it for less than an hour. Maybe there is some way to operate it properly to get the joy stick to respond in Ms Pacman. I hope they update the game and fix the problem as it is only good in Galaga. Pole Position and Ms Pacman are handicapped. The other games I can't review as I have never played them before and don't know what I am supposed to be doing in them. Namco also needs to add a little more detail to the skimpy documentation for those who have never seen some of the games. Other than that, Five Stars for the concept and execution although with the current flaws I cannot recommend this unless you are a Galaga fan like myself. I would definately purchase this again if they fix Ms Pacman.
Customer Review: A TRUE piece of junk. Buyer BEWARE Summary: 1 Stars
My four year old son just loves these plug and play games. He has Atari, Spongebob, Blue's Clues, et al. I was really excited when this Ms. Pacman game came out because the games on there are great!
Before buying this, I reviewed the online reviews on this website, and to my surprise almost everyone wrote about how defective the game is. "It can't be that bad" I thought. "Maybe it takes a little getting used to, but certainly the manufacturer would not have defective games in the field".
So, I purchased it, came home, got my son very excited about the game . . . and turned it on. The graphics were phenominal, sound was great, etc. Then, I tried to move. This is were the trouble began. The joystick would not move left. It went up, down, and to the right with no problem, however no matter what I did, it would not move left---on ANY game.
Not just that, but the Pole Position software has a defect in that you simply cannot qualify. I would go through the qualifying lap flawlessly, yet could not make it. It would just give me extra time--but that's it. Nothing to "shoot for."
I personally cannot believe that Jaacks does not have a QA department that would assure the quality of it's products.
In nutshell, you are rolling the dice with this game. I would have LOVED to have one that works---but just no when you purchase it, you have a 1-10 chance (per the reviews) of getting a product that works.
Customer Review: Good classics, bad controller, better option! Summary: 3 Stars
Before it was released, my brother and sister bugged me for weeks to get the this Ms. Pacman joystick. Problem is, all the reviews you read are right. The joystick is practically worthless to play Ms. Pacman. What a crock for the title game of this 5-in-1 unit!
I am a fan of the "TV Games" and collected a number of the better "plug-n-play" controllers. This one is good enough for Galaga and Pole Position. But Ms. Pac Man fans need not fain acceptance of this joystick.
There is already a better Ms Pac Man, and it's wireless! Includes Pole Position, Xevious, Rally X, Bosconian, Galaga, and Mappy. [See link below.] Controller has improved, graphics seems sharper, sound is better, heck...IT EVEN SAVES YOUR HIGH SCORES. Pole Position has improved speech, and Bosconian finally has speech it did not have in the other joystick.
The wireless is closer to five stars. More like 4.5 in my opinion. Using a total of 8 AA batteries, it's more overhead to run, but totally worth it. The simulated arcade woodgrain is classy and the joystick design is more arcade-like.
Just spend the extra money on the new one with 7 games. Trust me, you'll never miss the other Ms. PacMan with the same 5 games.

Customer Review: namco 5 games in one Summary: 2 Stars
this is a great concept toy, takes some of us back a while... i agree with some people that most of the games work great galag no porblem left to right movement, but i find ms. pacman to be extremely frustrating. i contacted manufacturer jakks who confirmed that "We are aware of the fact that the Ms. Pacman joystick behaves in a manner that does not suit the tastes of all consumers" and..."Also, the joystick behavior for Ms. Pacman has caused frustration for some consumers who are not used to the original Ms. Pacman. In both the original version and our version, you can't slide the joystick from the left or right position to the up or down position. You must let the joystick return to the center before it will go up or down. "
well sorry but i wanted a game that took me back for nostalgic reasons but not to drive me nuts, i still have a problem w/ ms. pacman had threee people try and they all complained that even if you let the joystick back to center and then down or up one feels that there is a delay or hesitation ion the game, if the ghosts where slower then the joystick would be fine. basically the joystick should of improved within the last 20 years the game is the classic who cares about the originality of the pain in your wrist(i.e carpeltunnel syndrome...)
by this for fun but with all the other game hardware out there this may "frustrate" some consumers...
