My 5 year old daughter and her 6 year old cousin love this game. My husband and I love it too. I have always loved the grown up version, but like other reviewers have said, it is a little brutal for young kids. I think this version is great as it teaches basic math (you have to pay double? you are only adding 3 plus 3) and is more fun from a kid perspective - what kid cares about owning Boardwalk when they could have the roller coaster?? Also, I think the reviewers who are complaining that this game doesn't involve strategy are forgetting the most important rule of board games: you can change the rules. That's the funnest part of Monopoly. It's your game after all, why can't you say to your kid that they are allowed to choose whether to buy a ticket booth or not? Although some adults might feel a slight twinge of regret seeing a "new" version of a classic game they grew up playing, this version is much better suited to very young players (four or five-year olds, perhaps?)
The rules are much simpler, the rewards come quicker and playtime is greatly accelerated -- teach your kids the basics of capitalism in mere minutes! I'm not wild about some of the property titles (the board is meant to reflect an amusement park and has lots of properties named after junk food and some soon-to-be-dated cultural references, such as the "American Idol" TV show) but overall, this is a good introductory kid's game, and is definitely worth picking up. I purchased this for my kids for Christmas. Although the game's age range is 5-8, I think the age could be higher. My 6 year old can play this with a lot of help, and my almost 9 year old loves it, and I think will enjoy it for a few more years. It is a boardwalk themed game and since we live in NJ, the boardwalk is a well-loved activity for us. If you know the original Monopoly, it is based on Altantic City Streets, which of course to my kids also means the Boardwalk (even though sadly, Donald Trump is taking down the last amusement pier left in Atlantic City), so this is a nice take on a classic game without being too "commerical" like the Nickelodeon versions that we have of every other game. I would buy it again hands-down.Customer Review: Great family game

My kids (3 and 6) love this game. The 3-year-old still needs quite a bit of help, but she can understand "owning" the Haunted House or the Balloon Stand, and she loves it when her brother has to pay her for using her attraction! The 6-year-old is re-enforcing his number recognition and counting skills, and he gets a kick out of Mamma having to "Go to Lunch" or getting stuck on anything else where I have to "pay up". I like this game because it holds my interest as well as the kids', and I enjoy all the clever twists on the original theme. I'm looking forward to bringing it to my family's Christmas get-together this year. It will be something the grown-ups and kids can all do together.Customer Review: Great choice for the whole family

Monopoly Jr is one of those rare games that, even though simplified for kids, older kids and parents can enjoy too!I love finding fun things for my child that are also educational, and this fits that description. My daughter was just turning 5 when we got this and she quickly learned the rules and was motivated to learn how to use the money. It's great to get to see the kids figure out how they can 'come up' with 4 dollars (or other amts) even if they are out of $4 dollar bills (they can use even smaller denominations). There are a lot of good logic and math skills involved in this game. As another person mentioned, another big benefit to this game is that it doesn't take hours to play!
