Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly Junior EditionCustomer Review: Kids love this game! Summary: 5 Stars
Must admit I was iffy on getting this, because I never liked Monopoly as a child. But I figured my kids could use the math skills. My kids are 6 an 8 and understood the game after the first few moments, even my six year old is begging to be banker after just a few games.I find it a bit frustrating that no matter what properties we own, we tend to keep landing on our own properties over and over around and around. When that happens, the game continues for over an hour and we just pack it away. With 4 cats and 2 wild dogs, it is not worth it to keep it set up for continued play later. My daughter has a knack for winning no matter what properties she owns and even if she has the fewest properties. She always wins the money pile, never pays into the pile, and can skip around the board with only landing on her spaces or railroad.A bit annoying for me, and down right frustrating for her 6 year old brother, but no matter, they beg to play it again and again.
Customer Review: The "Go To" Game Summary: 5 Stars
My 7 yr old gets 30 minutes down-time soon after school. He can do anything he wants, including watch TV. Since we got this game, it's been his # 1 choice. It's quick (a big plus with him), not too taxing on the brain, fun - especially when his parents have to pay him or when he get's to kick our ticket booth out. He can be a sore looser sometimes, but not with this game because he knows he can get us next time around. It's pure luck of the draw. And as an adult, I think it's fun too - unlike some other kid games that can get a bit tedious for parents. Besides I can play while prepping for dinner. His 3 yr old brother likes to hand out money and the Chance cards. Makes him feel like he's playing. I just wish the money was a little heavier-duty but with only 5 color coded denominations, we can easily print off fake money on that paper color as replacements. We've already got our money's worth out of the game!
Customer Review: Junior Monopoly Simpler, But No Less Smart Than Original Summary: 5 Stars
This entertaining junior version of the most famous board game ever features easier rules and a faster pace than its older brother. Its board represents stands and rides (Merry-Go-Round, Ferris Wheel) at an amusement park rather than streets in Atlantic City, N.J. Like the original, it features house pieces to buy properties, $2 each time you pass go (but remember to collect!) Chance cards that lead you to pay or be paid, and lessons in business thrift. (I was reminded of many of them losing twice in a row to my seven-year-old daughter.) Winning requires discipline, patience, good money management and some luck, and who couldn't use more of all those to succeed in business? Cheers to Parker Brothers for reaching not only out with trendy variations of its flagship product (Star Trek, Pokemon Monopoly, etc.) but to the youngest players who would enjoy and learn from this beloved game. Recommended.
Customer Review: Fun Game for the Family Summary: 4 Stars
We got the Monopoly Jr. game for Christmas despite some of the negative reviews. Remembering that this game is for ages 5-8, it is great. My 5 year old loves being the banker and we do our best to have her make change when we pay. The game is much shorter to play the Monopoly, so it is perfect for the younger set. Keep in mind, it does not require the strategy of Monopoly, but it isn't supposed to challenge the adults. If you like, you can do away with the rule that requires you to buy everything you land on and let the players choose what to buy (like the grownup version). My daughter has already figured out which properties are the best to have in order to bankrupt your opponent. Even my 2-year old son is enjoying it. It is a great family game. It makes a great next-step game for kids ready to move on from Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. It is the most played game in our household.
Customer Review: My daughter plays this game EVERY SINGLE DAY! Summary: 5 Stars
Her love for this game is possibly bad for me (because I'm all Monopoly'd out) but great for her. She is 3, so she is a little young for this game, but I decided to try it because she can read and count. If your child has those 2 skills, you can play it with them at younger ages with minimal help to them. Since we began playing this game, she learned simple addition and even a little bit of subtraction. She is good enough at it now that she needs no help with playing, can set up the game, and can be the banker. Even though she knows the game like the back of her hand now, she STILL loves it. We seriously play every single day.
We have had the game about 4 months and it is definitely the best 10 bucks I've ever spent judging by excitement over this game. Every time we play she lights up like it's the first time playing it.
